I've gotten it into my head that the solution to half our problems involves trading Bargnani.

Here's one I came up with that is simple and works.

Marc Gasol and Steven Hunter

One would expect the #2 rebounding team (by differential) in the league to be far better off than the Grizz but they're as bad as we are, at 7-12. They have poor shooters and one of the league's worst perimeter scoring. If Memphis is willing to give up a little rebounding for better scoring touch, then they'd be willing to make this trade.

From Gasol we would be getting a double-double every night from a guy who doesn't really shoot that often but has a good touch around the basket (as evidenced by his 63% shooting). He's also averaging about 2 blocks per game.

He's also fairly young, and should fit in nicely in the whole "Euro" atmosphere.

Btw, I may have a skewed perception of how much value Andrea has. Shrug, I think this is a pretty fair trade.

Yeah I think your perception of his value is a bit skewed. I don't see why the Grizzlies would do that, with Bargnani's contract. Gasol is the better, cheaper player.

I actually think that Marc Gasol could be a good fit in this team. He's a true C, very active in both ends of the floor and very strong, something this team lacks. But the only reason He could really help us is if Bosh leaves. With him at the C, Bargs could play his natural position at PF and both will have space to operate because one has more of a post-up game and the other is more perimeter oriented. They could complement very well.

I like this trade for the Raptors, but they may have to throw in something more, or take bad a bad contract in doing this one. Memphis would still have Thabeet (lol) and Haddadi at center backing up Bargs, not Terrible, but I don't see them making that one go.

I could see Bargnani's value being overlooked because of bias. With the team playing as bad as it has been, and with our own expectations to consider from a #1 overall pick it may be easy to take Bargnani for granted.

For example, I don't think you would find many GMs in the entire league who wouldn't consider trading for Bargnani if they knew he was available.

There's a number of things that I think would affect the league's perception of a players' value. For example:

1) A team may have a better ball distributor than the Raptors, which may lead them to believe they can get more out of Bargnani offensively than we can.
2) A team that already has strong interior defense coming from their forwards may be able to overlook Andrea's shortcomings.
3) A team desperately seeking shooting or spreading the floor may see more value in Bargnani than we do.
4) A team with a defensive specialist big man might be looking to mix things up and see Bargnani as the perfect complement player.

Teams like Chicago that are desperate for scoring?

Of course if the Raptors aren't well compensated any trade would be foolish. (True all the time, for any player)

Raptors should just keep the big guy!

Oh man, I would do that trade in a heartbeat-only if we knew for sure CB was resigning. CB and Marc Gasol in the frontcourt would be pretty sweet. But no way Memphis would give up one of the most promising young big men in the league. Just don't see it happening. But if BC could figure out a way to make it work, I'd be on board. It's nice to dream.
