    Default Eastern Conference Standings Predictions?

I'm bored. Here's my predictions for the standings atop the Eastern Conference this coming season, barring injuries to major players:

    1. Miami Heat

Too much talent, they're going to gel a lot quicker than everyone seems to think. Lebron's going to average a near triple double. And their role players are going to do exactly that - fill roles, and play up to the level of talent they're playing with. I'm looking forward to watching.

    2. Orlando Magic

Perennial Contenders. This might be high for them with an aging Vince Carter, but JJ Redick will probably fill in more minutes pretty admirably and Pietrus in the starting lineup instead of Barnes means more offense.

    3. Chicago Bulls

Great offseason, they've got clearly defined roles as a team and are deep and athletic at the wings. I hope they keep Deng instead of trading Noah and Deng for Carmelo. Carmelo's an incredible scorer, but Deng is pound for pound the most well-rounded player on that roster and super productive when healthy. Plus Noah's just one of those competitors that don't come around that often.

    4. Boston Celtics

They're old, but they're deep. Plus, Luke Harangody's jump shot makes me smile. I've always liked Boston as a blue-collared hardworking team. I might even have them too low, they could go number 2 or 3.

    5. Milwaukee Bucks.

I think Atlanta's going to regress this year and Milwaukee is a young team with two solid anchors at arguably the most important positions in Jennings and Bogut, and some solid additions in the offseason paired with a tough defensive minded coach.

    6. Atlanta Hawks

So much talent on the wings, but an aging Mike Bibby. New coach, don't know much about him actually. This is a guess, a complete guess.

    7. New York Knicks

I don't know if swapping out Amare for David Lee is enough to get the job done, but Felton's consistency can't hurt. I think this will be a fun team to watch. Hopefully Anthony Randolph has his breakout year.

    8. Crapshoot - Philadelphia? Washington? Charlotte?

There was a bit of a power shift from West to East, but the last few playoff spots could be up for grabs. That said, I don't think we'll be seeing any upsets in the first round.

Feel free to tear me apart for my opinions, I'm open to criticism. Plus, like I said, work is slow so any arguments would be greatly appreciated.

Well first I'd like to mention that this is just the standings, and has nothing to do with how far in the play-offs the team will go (Note: Boston)

    1. Miami Heat 60-22
    2. Orlando Magic 59-23
    3. Chicago Bulls 54-28
    4. Atlanta Hawks 53-29
    5. Boston Celtics 50-32
    6. Milwaukee Bucks 50-32
    7. New York Knicks 43-39
    8. Charlotte Bobcats 42-40
    9. Indiana Pacers 39-43
    10. Washington Wizards 37-45
    11. Toronto Raptors 37-45
    12. Philadelphia 76ers 34-48
    13. New Jersey Nets 30-52
    14. Detroit Pistons 27-55
    15. Cleveland Cavaliers 20-62

New Jersey 8th? That's a coach of the year award for Avery Johnson and a bold prediction. I like it. I like that team, I'm rooting for them. I want to see Terrence Williams dunk on some people this year.

Uh. You have the Eastern Conference finishing 44 games above .500 as a whole? Somehow, I have a feeling you didn't really think this through. There's no way six teams finish with 50 wins. I wouldn't argue too much with the actual standings, but Milwaukee and Boston at 50 wins seems overly optimistic, among other things.

Wait a minute, where are the "hater" comments and the endless Bargnani arguments? How refreshing.

    1. Miami (but man I pray they lose in the second round - it would be karmic destiny)
    2. Orlando
    3. Chicago (more a gut feeling than a well-reasoned position. I just figure Derrick Rose and Noah's series vs. the Celtics 2 years ago counts for something)
    4. Boston (this season is already leaving me deeply divided. I hate the C**tics but would love to see them take out the Heat in the playoffs. Of course I wouldn't mind seeing the 2 O'Neals cause the implosion of the franchise either, as long as Orlando beats Miami in the playoffs)
    5. Milwaukee (if Bogut's reasonably healthy)
    6. Atlanta
    7. Knicks
    8. Pacers (but they finish under .500)
    9. Charlotte (they might switch with the Pacers for the 8th seed, hell any one of the teams below might do that. Hope it's not Toronto, we need a lottery pick)
    10. Detroit
    11. New Jersey
    12. Toronto
    13. Philadelphia
    14. Cleveland
    15. Washington (because Wages of Wins says so)

Well its easy to see that there is a consensus among most people that there are a top 6 teams in the division: Miami,Chicago,Boston,Orlando,Milwk,Atlanta.

While the rest of the teams 7-15 are not much farther apart in terms of talent. With good coaching and greater commitment by the members of a certain team to play hard each and every night on both ends of the court then the 7th and 8th spot can potentially be stolen from teams with better overall rosters.

I think it's possible, but it's just a prediction. Milwaukee and Boston winning 50 games isn't "impossible".

If the NJ Nets land Carmelo Anthony I will place them ahead of NY Knicks and possibly even ahead of Hawks or Bucks. We shall see.

    1 - Miami
    2 - Orlando
    3 - Boston
4 - Atlanta — I really hate ATL and hope this is the year they fall the fck off but due to past success they get the 4 spot
5 - Chicago — gettin way too much hype for a team that barely made 8th last year.
    6 - Milwaukee
7 - Philadelphia — Can they shake the injury bug?
    8 - New York
    9 - Charlotte
10 - Detroit — if they stay healthy they might be 7 or 8
11 - Indiana — when does anything go right for them?
12 - New Jersey — ...will still suck
    13 - Toronto
    14 - Cleveland
15 - Washington — Welcome to the shell of a team known as the Wizards, John Wall. Time to pay some dues.

I think after the top 4 much of it will come down to experience and health. If Motown is healthy most of the year they could be in the mix. If Indy catches a break or two same thing. The teams that worry me (as far as predictions go) are NJ and Charlotte. NJ may overachieve and surprise (like MIL did last year) while Charlotte is a Gerald Wallace concussion away from a rebuild.

    8. Philadelphia

    10. New York
    11. Indiana
    12. Detroit

Here's how I see things shaking out:

    1. Miami
    2. Orlando
    3. Boston
    4. Chicago
    5. Atlanta
    6. Milwaukee
    7. Philadelphia
    8. New York
    9. Washington
    10. Charlotte
    11. Indiana
    12. New Jersey
    13. Pistons
    14. Cleveland
    15. Toronto

If New Jersey lands Carmelo, then I'd move them up to 8th or 9th.
    your pal,

Wow, this is one of the most on topic threads I've read on RR for awhile...a very long while.

    1.Miami
    2.Orlando
    3.Milwaukee
    4.Chicago
    5.Boston
    6.Atlanta
    7.New York
    8.Philadelphia

    14.Raptors

Reason for Boston being so low is because I think they'll save/rest their aging stars for the playoffs more actively this season.
