I decided to take a look at some advanced metrics for Calderon and Jack on defense last season and compare them to a number of other Points Guards in the league.
The rankings are league rankings in PPP allowed, not the rankings among PG. To my knowledge the source website does not have the query by category feature available like BasketballReference.com has to easily retrieve that player category data.
Defense
------------
Total Points Per Possession---League Rank
-----------------------------------------
Calderon--------1.05----------422
Jack------------1.00----------386
Nash-------------.92----------259
Kidd-------------.88-----------147 -- The old guy can still defend.
Rondo-----------.84------------61
Jennings---------.88-----------147
Collison----------.89-----------170
Westbrook-------.94-----------302
Who would have thought that Nash would have ranked ahead of Westbrook in PPP allowed in 09-10 especially when the Suns as a team allowed .91 PPP vs the Thunder .87.
Below are the numbers in defending against the three most run type of plays; i.e., the P&R, ISO and Spot-Up. Notice that here too the PPP on the ISO play are the lowest.
Interestingly enough the numbers say that Jack is a good defender against the P&R but not very good defending the other two plays. I would have to check, but just based upon this small sample Jack's PPP allowed against the P&R could be among the lowest all Point Guards in the league.
Nash and Jennings also defended well against the P&R.
Could toughness have something to do with it. To think that Sir Charles at least one time on TNT called Nash soft. Charles I think that you have a hole in screen door on this one. Maybe after Charles saw Nash play with a busted up nose he may have changed his opinion

Calderon was slightly better than Jack in defending the ISO play than Jack was, though not by much. Both however were near the bottom of the sample group.
