  • Relatively Unknown / Underappreciated Gems

So I don't have cable TV. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

So without the aid of commercials / advertising / MTV / etc to tell me what to like, and what to be interested in, i'm forced to search out things on my own and rely on my own personal tastes.. so after a 4-5 hours of watching porn, i can usually spare an hour or so for other forms of entertainment. I find alot of the stuff i end up digging a whole lot, hardly anybody has ever heard of..

Tonight i ran out of things to watch and ended up watching an episode of Bad Girls Club and the first 6 minutes of "The Lottery Ticket" (yes, it was that awful)

I can't watch crap anymore.. so i figured why not turn to the good people of raps republic.

    my contributions:

    MOVIES

Enter the Void - to put it simply, it's like the "Trainspotting" of hallucinogens. Trippiest movie I've ever seen. Beautifully shot movie to boot. Some really interesting POVs... but we warned... there's some seriously bizarre stuff going on in it... there is a sex scene from the point of the view of a vagina... its THAT weird

Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl - Japanese gore comedy. Exactly the extreme limit you'd think the japanese would take their gore. Also some horribly racist stereotypes in the movie.... HILARIOUS... but racist

Four Lions - a british comedy about islamic suicide bombers. not campy at all.. well-made movie that actually makes you root for the suicide bombers a bit.

    TELEVISION

Misfits - british show about a group of teens doing community service for their ASBOs (Anti-Social Behaviour Orders) who get super powers. It's everything i ever wanted "Heroes" to be

Wildboyz - Quite possibly my favourite TV show ever. Take the two best members of Jackass, Steve-O and Chris Pontius, mix it with some National Geographic. And voila, comedy gold. No show has gotten as many repeat viewing in my house as Wildboyz.

Sherlock - British show. It's a modern retelling of Sherlock Holmes, but in present day London. Only 3 episodes, but each is as long as a movie. Martin Freeman from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy plays Watson.

Four Lions is epic...though perhaps a bit dry for some tastes.

Along the lines of good British comedy, check out a show called the Inbetweeners if you haven't already.

for movies, I would say boondock saints trilogy is a relatively unknown one and underappreciated.

ooh,i also liked those species movies, the first one was a big success, but, the next three i'm not as sure about but, i can tell you they are decent movies.

http://www.amctv.com/ anything on this station if you get it.

i've heard "it's always sunny in philadelphia" with danny devito is alright, it's on some fx channel which i don't get, but, others might.

sometimes there is a good show on showcase, but, i doubt you get that channel since it's basic cable.

not a very good list but, if you put me on the spot right now i can give you those.
If Your Uncle Jack Helped You Off An Elephant, Would You Help Your Uncle Jack Off An Elephant?

Sometimes, I like to buy a book on CD and listen to it, while reading music.

"It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" is one of the funniest shows ever. Season 1 is good, but they really hit their stride in seasons 2-4. I will go to the grave laughing my ass off reminiscing on some of the lines/scenes from that show.

Another equally hilarious show that is about to enter its second season is Archer. It also airs on FX.

Having just watched the MTV version of "Skins" and the ScyFy version of "Being Human"... i gotta recommend the original UK versions of both shows..

The American (Canadian, really... but im sure they didnt think anybody would notice TTC buses) versions are absolutely horrendous..
