Maybe they should just stop taking them, or limit certain players attempts. Maybe they should drill more on this shot during practices.
I think this is a serious issue. The Raptors are by far the worst team on the league for 3-pt shooting at 31.2%. The next worst is Memphis at 33.1% while the best is Golden State at 40%. So, Toronto is worse than the second worst by much more than a quarter of the difference (about two sevenths) between the second worst and the best. In other words, they are probably shooting the three worse than many high school teams in the US.
A look at culprits: Derozan has wasted 23 attempts while sinking just 2. Weems has missed 29 while hitting on just 9. Bayless is just 21 for 68 (~31%). At this rate, he should be banned from taking them since he's obviously trigger happy but actually a pretty good penetrator. Kleiza was similarly bad, but we won't be seeing any more from him.
Bargnani and Barbosa have been mediocre, but the team needs them to try for scores one way or another. I think they get immunity from this critique.
Calderone has been pretty darn good, draining threes at almost 40% efficiency while taking that shot one time in five.
Am I wrong in thinking this is one of the key reasons for their ineptness? Think of all the close games they have lost this season. Shouldn't they at least try to sign a three point artist to a ten-day contract, just to have that weapon ready in a close game?
