VLAD THE IMPALER!!.. Not anymore? Oh ...

    Blue Jays sign Vladimir Guerrero
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed veteran OF/DH Vladimir Guerrero to a minor-league deal.

The team confirmed the signing via a press release on Thursday.

Guerrero, who began his career as a member of the Montreal Expos, hit .290 with 13 home runs and 63 RBI with the Baltimore Orioles last season.

The 37-year-old veteran will report to extended spring training in Dunedin, Florida.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, who first reported the deal, also indicated that it would be worth $1.3M, prorated for the time spent on the major league roster over the course of the season.

Guerrero, who was signed as an amateur free agent by the Expos in 1993, has also appeared with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Texas Rangers since making his Major League debut in 1996.

The Dominican Republic native captured the American League Most Valuable Player award in 2004 in his first season with the Angels. During that season he hit .337 with 39 home runs and 126 RBIs.

I'm fine with the signing, very low risk.. Definitely better than signing Ben Francisco and Visquel at least, and probably even Cordero.. That guy is brutal.. how many games he blow so far? 10 ERA a month into the season, yikes..

I called it at the beginning of the season. He's too damn Ugly to be a good pitcher.
Randy Johnson is the only one to do it successfully.

    But seriously, Cordero is brutal.

Yup it's crazy times. The AL east is wide open right now and is anybody's for the taking. I really feel that when/if the Jays get consistent outings from the bullpen they have a shot to be right there at the top. It should be a fun summer.

And yes Cordero is fuking brutal...in more ways than one.

Check this. According to Rosenthal, Anthopolous is inquiring about the availability of Hamels and Victorino.

Every Pro Ball player needs to have as much as Brett Lawrie does out there.

    Come on now LBF, I don't think the 3 L's in a row=falling apart.

The defense is horrendous right now though. They are near the top in the league in errors committed. That can't keep up if they look to stay in the hunt.

Im just waiting for who we get for the upcoming Adam Lind + prospect trade in the making, hopefully a solid piece like Rasmus last year.

We need a 1B who can hit lefties thats it.

    Default Brett Lawrie suspended!

Lawrie gets hit with a 4 game suspension following an argument with the home plate umpire. So he throws his helmet down in frustration/anger and it accidentally hits the ump in the leg. It was a one run game in the 9th and he represented tying run. The ump blew two obvious calls which would have put Lawrie on first.

Is the suspension deserved? Too harsh? Too lenient? What are your guys thoughts?

Ugh.. That suspension was brutal. Suspend the ump for that lousy officiating. Brett Lawrie lost his cool, and that's unacceptable, but it's unreal that he gets four games while that ump completely changed the course of the game with his arrogance goes unpunished... I love basketball, and I love baseball, but there's way too much room for the officials to give games away, and I feel like I see it all to often and it's never in Toronto's favor.

They need a 1B that can hit. Period. A LF who could hit would also be nice.

If Rasmus would also start hitting that would be awesome, too.

Ah well, doesn't look like its going to be Lind. He was just demoted to the minors and the Jays have called up Yan Gomes.

This makes the Guerrero siging all that more interesting now. Play Edwin at 1B and eventually use Vlady as the DH.

Yeah, and Lawrie dropped the appeal, so Gomes at 3B for 4 games, Francisco DHing and EE at 1B. Vlad wasn't very good last year but he's gotta be better than Francisco, right? I guess they think Vlad might be ready close to the end of the month.

Francisco wasn't signed. But, I'll agree he sucks.
