  • Raptors Republic at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference

This year, I will be heading to Boston to represent Raptors Republic at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference: http://www.sloansportsconference.com/

The conference agenda is here: http://www.sloansportsconference.com...website-v8.pdf

We'll obviously be attending all of the basketball related sessions. If you have any specific questions you would like asked/addressed either post them here or email me at tomliston@gmail.com

Good news - you can watch some of the sessions via webcast here: http://www.avideolink.com/portal/reg...2e8be90bccd95a

Look for a summary post on Monday morning.

(Yes, Multipaul, I'll try to get you Wayne Winston's autograph)

        Um...are the raps sending anyone?

Give Simmons a kick in the nuts for constantly goating Rap fans...then buy him a drink for keeping us relevant and making sure VC paid for his sins.

On a serious note...curious to see if they rate/analyze coach’s style by the % of gut vs. data they utilize and whether there is a correlation to winning % or impact on a team… and what type of team; veteran vs. youth etc gets impacted more by which style of coach…seems obvious but maybe not.

Referee Analytics – VERY curious if this session evaluates and actually measures the collective bias of referee calls against certain teams overall. Are the Raptors consistently getting screwed on the discretionary calls or is this a fallacy. Again subjective based on personal and style of play but would be interesting.

Stay away from the ”NeuroScouting” session…you might need to go into the witness protection program if you get too close to solving the Bargnani-complex.

Have fun...should be a very interesting conference.

Actually, I would like to know the what the analytics crowd thinks of Berri's Win's Produced, PAWS, etc. Do these stats have a big following, or are they largely rejected or criticized by other analysts.

That's awesome, look forward to the report and tweets from the conference. I looked at the agenda, it looks like a wild time. Wear protection.

Cheers Tom and don't forget to pick me up some of Sam Adam's "Winter Lager". Good stuff.

                  Travel safely.

Ah - those sessions overlap! But perhaps I can view the stream afterwards. Probably will attend the Gut vs Data session.

Me as well - I know the arguments both ways at a "high level", but a bright crew will be out this evening and I'll inquire on a "no names" basis their thoughts.

Do you know if Wayne Winston will be there?

MIT has a nice campus, they even have that giant "world's first computer there"
