Ross isn't going to be paid $9.5M per season to be the team's #2 scoring option, he's a rookie 5th string wing player on a lottery team. How/why would you possibly have the same expectations for the two of them?
I don't. I just expect - with all his 'star potential' - to produce the way he's expected to. Perimeter shooting, scoring, and defense. He hasn't done maybe other than 3 or 4 games this season.

EDIT* You have to earn your minutes. He's lost them. I think minutes are a good argument, but he gets enough time to do his job. You might say "How is 5 minutes possible for anyone to prove anything?" Well, with what he's expected to do - and from last night - he got well enough shots up and time to warrant minutes for the game.

    • Ross doesn't make good use of his minutes, he reminds me of Bayless who tries to force EVERYTHING. Over-aggressive defense, fouling, jumping on fakes, shooting every time he touches the ball. Don't get me wrong, I believe his potential is really high, definitely better than Derozan's, but, as a rookie, he's trying to do too much.

      • Cant we just see that soon (probably next season) Gay DeRozan and Ross will be a great wing rotation possibly top 8 10 in the NBA. DeMar strengths are Ross's weaknesses and vice versa nothing wrong with depth, Ross has just hit the rookie wall he will be good soon we've all seen it the dunk off really made him lose track of priorities.

That's where I think keeping both is awesome, because Demar is essentially a slasher, while Ross is a perimeter specialist. Demar is a talent, and Ross has a chance to be. I think with a guy like Gay, we are only a big piece and some small minor changes away from being contenders. Plus experience, which I hope we'll get enough wins for this season.

          • Demar's scoring is not an issue for me. It's his handles and worse, defence. Tony Allen is right - Demar is all score and little win. Sorry man, there's more to ball than scoring. I expect some semblance of defense from any starter. I agree that there's only a few Tony Allens and Thabo Sefolosha's out there. I've just never been a fan of Demar since day 1.

I have. Ironically, he came into the league as a versatile defender. I don't know what happened to that since his rookie year, but we all know with his athleticism, he is very capable of doing so. He's improving at that side of the ball, he's had some really good defensive games this season, and he's effecting the game in different ways such as rebounding, or finding the open guy. He's certainly done more than score this season.

              • I find demar is finding ways to be a positive even when not scoring. when his shot is falling he is dropping 20 and I find this year he is getting his steals up and had some good rebounding games. mostly his passing has improved. the Memphis game had nothing to do with Allen or demar and everything to do with gay. he missed demar on what would have been easy fast break points and there would would be no way to say Allen shut him down then.

his problem and the teams is half court sets. that's on the coach and gm. bigv can't be trusted down low to not get stripped because he lacks experience and bargs likes the outside, where he should be and amirs post up game is still developing.

if you watch, all the nice plays and passes come in transition. a player like pau would do wonders for the half court game.

right now we are an outside inside team that doesn't shoot particularly well from the outside.

Unless some member of the bench gets hot. Rudy, Demar, Fields, are not getting it done. Only Lowry is shooting over 40% this year. Pretty tough to be "inside out" without outside shooting.

.... or an inside scoring threat other than offensive glass or pick and roll.

HUGE. Demar becoming a playmaker slasher will add a new dynamic to our offense! He had some nice feeds from the paint!

                          • You can see he is getting more comfortable as a facilitator as he is being used more on screen and rolls as opposed to purely off ball like last season. I'm happy with his improvement but he still has a ways to go given that he was not gifted the ball skills of a James Harden. Overall, this has been a very good season for Demar with the occasional disappearance against physical defenders.

More work on the handles + a 3 pointer will go a loooong way.

                              • I think his handles have improved or at least he is more comfortable taking his man off the bounce. His off hand dribbling is still an issue, however.
