I bet BC gonna draft Jonas , if he does I wont be a Raptor fan anymore.

here is the thing.... that is ALL OFFENSE. The offense is not, and has not, been a problem all season. This team did not get blown out because of lack of scoring. This team got blown out because of a complete inability and willingness to defend. This team loses games because they are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. No desire, no willingness, no effort, no heart.
Even then, most of what you mentioned is directly related to one or two players. How can you have an "inside out game" when your C only plays outside. How can you have ball movement, when your main offensive threats suck in the ball when the get it (Bargs, Derozan, Barbossa)? The high usage players on this team are for the most part one dimensional. You cannot expect diversity when players don't have it. (no matter how much we are told they do)
We can blame the coach, but that can only be, at most, one part of the problem. Players still play the game. And when a coach is given alot of soft players, you can't expect him to make them tough through osmosis.
The culture and players needs to change. If that includes the coach, I'm not against it. But just changing the coach is not going to solve the problems this team has.... unless that coach is giving the ability to hold players accountable. I don't believe for a second that Jay has been given that freedom.
"We only have one rule on this team. What is that rule? E.L.E. That's right's, E.L.E, and what does E.L.E. stand for? EVERYBODY LOVE EVERYBODY. Right there up on the wall, because this isn't just a basketball team, this is a lifestyle. ~ Jackie Moon
I agree the culture needs to change and that means getting people in on both sides of the equation with the right mindset.
Yes players do play the game but its suppose to be within the framework of the coaches strategy and tactics which should be a controlled environment with a team this inexperienced. Derek fisher is not a good defender but his weaknesses are hidden, rondo is not a good shooter but his weaknesses within the teams structure. Do we have so many weaknesses that calderon's bad defence can't be hidden or bargnani bad defense can't be hidden or reggie's lack of ability to score can't be hidden for stretches of the game? I don't think we do especially when we do have specialist on our roster like wright perimeter defense, davis shot block, james johnson perimeter defense. thats how you have to evaluate the talent on the roster at this point. Yes we do not have all-star talent but we have the ability as a team to hide our weaknesses for periods at a time.
having a inside/out game doesn't always have to come from your center or power forward posting on the block you got back door cuts and back screens and high low stuff that can achieve the same results. all of which come from running sets and not freestyling the game.
I completely agree with you that we do have soft players on this team and until we can upgrade we have to hide them or take them completely off the floor and if they are not trying to do that what are we really trying to do out there? Most teams I can see what they are trying to do but with Jay I don't know what he is doing besides trying to outscore people and put in a rebounder to try and grab the misses.
How many games in a row this season have the Raptors played with a full and consistent team rotation? How do you establish chemistry when the same 5 guys aren't getting consistent playing time together? This season has essentially been a continuation of training camp, to evaluate individual talent for next season. The really unfortunate part is that talent is precisely what this team is lacking!
The Raptors are not giving in 110% of effort out there, they need to hire a team psychologist or something.
There are enough decent players on this team, as their wins against good teams testify to, that such a pathetic, display as we witnessed last night should not happen. I blame it on communication. There is a problem communicating at every level of this team, the players with each other, the coaches with each other, the coaches to the players and Colangelo with everybody. Last year there was a good meeting that preceded a turnaround on the court. This year we have Reggie Evans telling everyone to lay off Bargnani because he is the best player on the team. Instead Evans should have Andrea by the throat up against a wall telling him to play some defense instead of wandering around looking dazed and confused.
its all about consistency. Saying one thing, doing another. Pushing rebuilding-> not making the necessary trades. preaching Defensive construction-> not punishing players for lack of defensive hussle. I mean really, our defense was like water against golden state. And we have no team leader which is the big problem i see.
The Raptors lose because they don't have much talent. I don't think it's super complicated.
Because they're doing a rebuild. The whole team was built around Chris Bosh and stunk with him here in that last season. Then they go and lose him without adding much talent to make up for him leaving. They're playing young guys a lot. I don't mean to toot my own horn or anything but it's playing out how I thought it would for the most part with no surprises. The roster had "stank" written all over it and the only people who thought otherwise were setting themselves up for disappointment with their blind optimism.
