Ugh Kevin O'Neil was so awful
Ugh Kevin O'Neil was so awful

If you give Triano the roster that Lenny Wilkens had I think this team could of gone further than the 2nd round. He is extremely good with his Xs and Os and is good with the players. I really hope he gets re-signed.
You give Kevin O'Neil's roster to any of the other Raptor coaches and they won't be able to scrape out more than 20-wins. The fact that he was able to get 33 wins with Lony freakin' Baxter playing real minutes is amazing. Yes, his style of play was boring. Yes, he was a mad man. But the Raptors had no business winning that many games if it wasn't for him. He even got Vince Carter to WANT to defend Rasheed Wallace, and to do it effectively!
Given off-the-court entertainment and getting the most out of your players, K.O. was the G.O.A.T
Kevin O'Neil was always a volcano waiting to erupt. He was an excellent teacher of defense. My theory is that he scared people into playing it.![]()
There is no excuse for the offense though. It was like watching paint dry in the middle of winter.

l can't believe that Sam Mitchell hasn't been hired on as a Head Coach somewhere. He is Old School, all the way.
Come to think of it, the only one that has gone on to Coach after coaching the Raptors is Lenny. And he was pretty horrid with New York.[/QUOTE]
That is pretty amazing that only one Raptors HC went on to find another head coaching job. Triano could continue the trend when he's done here.
I think he might get his shot eventually in Jersey.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it fair to crown a greatest of all time when NONE of these coaches can be considered great?
Best of the worst raptors coach imo

I actually think Sam was "average" compared to other coaches in the league by the end and has a lot of promise to one day be an excellent coach. He came a long way from start to finish. Just figured I'd throw that out there.
he DID win coach of the year
@jerboat
For some reason people ignore those things on here. haha
Saying BC won TWO Executives of the year didn't do it for him either.
I think Sam was a great Coach. He was the epitomy of Players Coach, and besides Rafer and Vince, I'm not sure you'll find one player who has a bad thing to say about him. He is one of the main reasons Bosh is even close to being the player that he is. Ditto for KG, and KG will admit it.

Coach of the year should really be called "coach who had the biggest positive win difference when comparing this season to last season" award. Deciding it seems to have nothing to do with assessing how good the coach really is. If it did then guys like Pop and Phil would win it every year. Sam had a horrible roster and then suddenly he had a roster full of guys who could play. Suddenly the team wins more than it loses and Sam is COY. Sam is an average coach with a stellar personality in front of the camera.
So much for triano's run! Without another season at the helm I don't see how anyone can have him higher than 4th.

Another season might have put him much lower than 4th. We don't know. I'm glad we will never know.
