  • Talk today of MLeonard rising the charts with Portland and Detroit interested. Might force Portland to go Leonard to prevent losing to Detroit and thereby dropping Lillard....

    • I think Portland takes a center with their first pick knowing they can get Marshall with their second.

      • For quite awhile, there have been 9 players that have widely been considered consensus top-10 picks... I'd be more shocked if all the pundits were right, than I would be if there's a few surprises come draft night! I do think that at least 6 of the consensus top 9 will still get picked in the top 10, but the order after #1 is anybody's guess!

Davis, MKG, Beal, Barnes, Robinson, Drummond, Lillard, Sullinger, PJIII

Interesting that not only does Barnes have the best no step but he also has the fastest 3/4 court sprint

          • Surprised again!...that MKG did not feature more prominently in these athletic type stats.

Ever since someone mentioned Julian Wright's name alongside of Kidd-Gilchrist's I am have fallen out of love... not to say that I still don't like his game, just not so sure about him.

Agreed. I think that if Portland doesn't draft Lillard, he will be available @ #8.

New Orleans - need a PG, but will draft Davis #1
Charlotte - Kemba Walker, DJ Augustin
                Washington - John Wall
                Cleveland - Kyrie Irving
Sacramento - Tyreke Evans, Isaiah Thomas, Jimmer Fredette
                Portland - ???
                Golden State - Stephen Curry
                Toronto -
I read somewhere on the world wide web that Portland doesn't want to rebuild but to retool. They would rather spend big money on Nash than try to rebuild around a young point like Lillard. Not to say they can't do both or that they might do neither. I for one wouldn't mind signing Nash and drafting Lillard.

I've been saying all year that Barnes' athleticism is massively underrated.

When we had a chance at the #4ish spot, I was 100% Barnes or Bust. Too bad there's no chance he falls to #8.

Perry Jones actually did pretty well looking at his numbers. Obviously VERY athletic, but stronger than I would have guessed as well, out Bench Pressing guys like Sullinger and Drummond. (Joey Graham has the record for most Bench Presses at like 35 I believe.)

                  • It would be interesting to find some detailed stats and metrics about Barnes. Could it be that he does not use his athleticism often enough? He has a terrific perimeter game on offense and it seems he settles for that. He doesnt bother to go inside too much and this is somewhat borne out by his 5 rbds/game in his last year. I havent seen him often enough but reviews say that he doesnt/cannot create his own shot very well. When Marshall his pg got injured he was somewhat lost the last couple of games of the tournament. It would seem with the athleticism displayed in those stats he would be more active inside on scoring and defense. No? He certainly has the height, weight and hops. But I could be mistaken in the evaluation.

                    • Let's not be too quick to define his game too quickly. He has all the tools to be really solid player. With the proper direction he very well could open up his game to include low post moves. Just an example but if Durant suddenly lost Westbrook in the playoffs and became the sole focus of the Miami defense would he be able to produce in the same way? Poor example but Barnes struggling without Marshall should have been expected.

                      • I think that Barnes' ball handling limits his athleticism. By that, I mean that since his dribbling is not that great, it's difficult for him to blow past defenders and instead, he is forced to take little steps. I guess some people who can run fast doesn't mean they can do the same with the ball. If that makes sense.

I think DeMar suffers from the same syndrome where it is difficult for him to fully use his athleticism when he has the ball. He dribbles on the side, and often a bit behind his step and really doesn't have full control, which forces his strides to be that much shorter and therefore, ineffective.

                        • Let's hope that the Raptors do not make their pick based solely on athleticism. One of the rationales for the Blazers drafting Oden ahead of Durant in 2007 was that Oden was superior in every category of the athleticism testing. Durant was mediocre at best in this area.

Agreed. These combine numbers shouldn't outweigh in-game performances. I mean, what good is a 40" vertical if you're a spot-up shooter with no handles?

                            • One thing to keep in mind is that this draft is considered very deep, but not necessarily full of multiple stars. It might be that we have shooting or defensive specialists to chose from and not a star player that will be good in multiple areas.

                              • Damian Lillard athelic testing

No step vert 34.5(2nd) max vert 39.5(8th) bench 13(185bls) lane agility 11.15 3/4 sprint 3.34

-Damian Lillard fared well in the vertical jump testing, posting the second highest no-step vertical jump with a mark of 34.5 inches. Lillard was fairly average across the board, though he did toss up 13 reps on the bench, which is not bad consider he only weighs 4 more pounds than the 185-pound load he was moving.
