wont mean shit if they keep him on the rookie payroll of 5FGApg
most of the rookies similar to JV gets own plays just 2nd season, so maybe we can expect more from him next year. By the way 5-7FGM per game is more than enough for him.

I think there is a slight misunderstanding here which I will try to clear up. First off, do you mean FGM or FGA? He is rarely getting more than 5-7 field goal attempts.

Second, even 5-7 FGAs may have been ok when this team was mostly healthy and still had hopes (however unrealistic) of making the playoffs. It is, however, no longer ok in games where you are sitting your best player and are meant to shifting more focus to development of young players.

This is the perfect opportunity to forcefeed Jonas some touches to get him used to the load he'll be expected to carry next season. It would be nice if they got him 10-12 field goal attempts per game, a realistic expectation for him to average next year. I don't think anyone would expect to see that literally every game, but he's being ignored far too much by his teammates right now.

*The ball basically only moves around the perimeter a lot of the time, and guys take turns taking jumpers. Oddly enough, I feel like just from observation he tends to be more involved when Gay plays. I feel like tHings get much worse when he's out (be it subbed out or missing a whle game).

      • raptors got into playoffs using bosh in the paint. add bargs and the myriad of wings we've had to pad the score. since losing bosh toronto has had zero inside presence. we've relied on bargs, then derozan, and now gay. only now amir is maturing into a capable player but lets put it this way, we also have JV who has shown he can be an offensive threat all in his first year in the league.

we had no problem putting bosh on the fasttrack to being an allstar. why not with jv?

          Because we have Dwane Casey.

Hes a rookie.... not playing a rookie that much isnt a rare thing hes getting good burn out there a star is made through more the players own integrity. Hes our starting Center and when he gets more accustomed to the game he likely will be.

With JV, force-feeding isn't even necessary. He gets himself open all the time, and he creates mismatches by himself. Re-watch the Knicks game. He was open soooooo many times and was being basically ignored because we would rather take mid-range jumpers and contested threes (Anderson). Must be so frustrating as a young guy to go through this...he brings a great mentality and is being disrespected by his teammates game after game.

My point wasn't that JV isn't capable of getting that many touches now based on his own play....it was that he simply isn't getting them because of his teammates..

By force-feeding, I meant that his teammates should pass him the ball every single time they can, and held accountable if they don't. This means that any player, from AA to Lowry to Amir, should get pulled for looking him off, even more so if they decide to chuck a jumper instead, especially when he's got his man pinned right under the basket in the paint, or on his favorite spot on the left low block.

The way JV is treated by this team is a crime. Some fun simple stats that don't tell much but are just for looking at:
-JV has scored 10+ points in 8 of his last 9 games with his biggest FGA total being 11.
-Amount of games where JV has 10+ fga....6, and only 2 since coming back from injury

                • The personnel other than Gay is the only guy on the team used to feeding the ball to the big down low when he doesnt have his shot hes done a pretty good job of finding JV in games.

                  • Kyle Lowry needs to learn how to run pick n roll with JV

Before you can run a pick and roll, you need to teach the bigs how to properly set picks. Have you seen Amir's screens lately? He doesn't even make contact with the defender. Just kinda slips it every time, which doesn't make any sense.

Well amir has seriously cut down on his fouls maybe thats why some of his play has been a little soft in areas, wants to avoid foul trouble he used to be a magnet for the whistle. The team NEEDS him on the floor.

Recently, his screen setting has been poor, he's been grabbing and holding. At the same time, Lowry doesn't know to run a goddamn pick and roll.

And neither does Lucas...basically, there is no one around to run JV/Amir's most comfortable play.

Lowry isn't great at the pick and roll, but at least he tries to run it. Lucas pretty much never uses the screens that are given to him. You'll see JV or Amir come to set a high screen for him at the top, and he'll just dribble away in the other direction brushing them off....
