  • Lou Williams

Being the rumour and media whore I am, here is a trade proposal that may work for all involved.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMa...radeId=3tcufkz

    Toronto: Williams, Speights
    76ers: Kaman, Foye
    Clippers: Gay, Nocioni
Grizzlies: Barbosa, Aminu, '12 first round draft pick from Minnesota

      Why

Why do we want Louis Williams, the guy is a selfish player, a mediocre SG who thinks he can play PG. Say no to Speights, I rather have Craig Brackins and let the coach team him how to play C.

I'd much rather have Calderon and that contract for the next 2 seasons than Williams who is not a very good PG and a wonky Webster. Put Speights in that deal however, like the original one you posted, Matt, and I'd be over it.

              Alternative to first trade:

              TOR: Williams, Speights
MEM: 2012 MIN 1st round pick, 2014 1st round pick from Clippers, Aminu
              LAC: Gay
PHI: Kaman, 2nd round pick from Raptors

(would work after Amnesty used on Nocioni)

So we only give up a second round pick for for Lou Williams and Speights? How is that possible?

Cap space is for more than free agency.

MEM saves a tonne of money to resign Gasol and gets valuable assets.

PHI gets the C they have needed without giving up AI.

LAC get what they are missing.

I just don't see how the trade works, we are not giving up any salary but are taking on two players, so are you saying we give cash and the pick, because I don't see that in your trade anywhere.

The Raptors have the cap space to take on salary without giving any up.

Salary cap space can be used to acquire more than a free agents. Sure they could offer cash in addition to the draft pick - or they could offer just cash or they could offer a top 55 protected 2nd round pick.

In the proposed trade (that really has no chance of ever happening), the Raptors are acting as a facilitator. The contracts from Philly have to go somewhere but PHI, MEM, and LAC will be up against the luxury tax, so the Raptors come in and take on salary to help the trade - and to help themselves. MEM and LAC did this for many years until the last season or two as they were under the salary cap.

The concept is the same as how MIN took Beasley for a second round pick to MIA and how OKC took Mo Pete and pick 11 from NOH for two later first round picks.

Any team with salary cap space could do what I proposed for the Raptors in this trade.
