Most everyone knows my bias - but this is great stuff. He is an especially good fit on this Raptors squad - his weaknesses (shooting, ball handling) are the team's general strengths, while the team's weaknesses (rebounding, defense) are pieces where he excels.
If you believe that defense is 50% of the game (and I hope everyone does) and that retaining (offensive rebounds) possessions are huge, then Amir's value is easily to see.

(Look at the overall - and the defensive change he brings).

        Thanks for the tip.

Actually I was thinking about calling him out for not being more aggressive shooting the ball, but for now performances like last night will suffice as a short term mollifier.

Other than that I don't expect to post any negative stuff about him. That is not the object of the blog. I will leave the negative stuff to others on the Net. There will be no shortage of such comments. LOL

Amir Johnson is a statistical marvel, and was a real conundrum for Adjusted Plus/Minus guys. Basically, he is always near the top of +/- rankings, leaguewise. Most people thought this was some sort of fluke, or problem with the model (see this site, for example: http://www.countthebasket.com/blog/, or this one http://www.82games.com/ilardi2.htm).

Last year hurt his stock a lot, since Michael Curry destroyed his confidence and kept him nailed to the bench. I am really glad we picked him up. He is our most consistent player after Bosh, and also our best defender. Hopefully the rest of the league does not realize how good he is, and we can sign him for 6 years, 4 million a year or something.

As an aside, I've come to the conclusion that Joe Dumars is an amazing drafter (ignoring Darko.)

BTW, is it me or does Calderon play much better when Amir is on the floor?

Another solid effort from Amir today against the Mavs. I really do hope BC makes it a priority to sign him in the off season. He is exactly the type of player the Raps have needed for years in the frontcourt.
