Alabi Assigned To Bakersfield Jam Of The NBA D-League

    January 4, 2012

The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday they have assigned centre Solomon Alabi to the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. Alabi will continue to be included on the Raptorsí roster and will be placed on the teamís inactive list.

He appeared in 22 games during three stints with the NBA D-Leagueís Erie BayHawks last season, averaging 7.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 18.5 minutes.

Alabiís lone appearance with the Raptors this season came January 1 at Orlando. He played in 12 games with Toronto last season, totaling six points and 14 rebounds in 59 minutes. The club acquired the draft rights to Alabi from the Dallas Mavericks on June 24, 2010. He was the 50th overall selection in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Alabi, a native of Nigeria, is the fifth Raptor to be assigned to the NBA D-League. Ed Davis was assigned to the Erie BayHawks for two games in December 2010. Nathan Jawai was designated on two occasions in the 2008-09 season to the Idaho Stampede. P.J. Tucker was assigned twice to the Colorado 14ers during the 2006-07 season and Pape Sow was assigned to the Arkansas Rimrockers in the 2005-06 campaign.

Bakersfield, led by head coach Will Voigt, has been appointed as Torontoís NBA D-League affiliate for the 2011-12 season.

Agreed, and maybe we can see how he does in comparison to his stint in the D-League last year. If the summer stories were even close to true he should do much better than last year.

Finally, its messed up when you have a 7'1 guy sitting on the bench undeveloped.

They should have let him play a few minutes per game since this is an evaluation season anyway. Why send him down when he can get his feet wet against the big boys.

Clearly there must be something else going on (like he isn't that good).

He didn't play for JT. He isn't playing for DC.

As coaches they are night and day, yet Solo still can't play.

Also, where are the minutes going to come from? ED isn't even playing enough in many, including my own, opinions.

Hahah precisely Matt. This is what I've been maintaining for some time.

I wish Alabi was good, but he's not. Just because he's 7'1" doesn't mean he's destined to be a good Basketball player.

Alabi still might become a useful player, he's not waived/cut yet.

No doubt. I am not ready to give up on the guy. He is the 14/15th player on the team with a minimum contract.

One would think Denver would be interested in him given the Ujiri ties.... maybe not though.
