It is just the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.
After March 1st, a restricted free agent is only permitted to sign with the team that own his rights - in this case Denver. Sign and trades are not permitted once the season starts.

I think the Nene trade will be followed up with a signing of Chandler by Denver.
They shed significant salary and will definitely be able to sign McGee for much less than Nene, in my opinion, if they choose to.
Makes sense from a financial perspective. But they still need to find minutes to keep both Chandler and Gallo happy. And I'm sure both those guys find it easier to operate with a low-post presence like Nene around to counter-balance their perimeter games.

+1. Javale Mcgee is not a post presence, George Karl is going to have a hard time with an offense after losing a complimentary player like Nene that could most likely make a team better. Javale Mcgee is a damn bone head.

Gallo is a straight 3.
Afflalo is a 2/3.

A big part of the problem with the re-signing of Chandler has been the insistence the deal starts at $7M. However that means he'll get $7M for the entire year despite playing a little less than half. The Nuggets wanted to start at $5M. Saving nearly $7M this year on Nene and $60M over the next 4 certainly makes it a little easier to give Wilson his extra $2M per year.
No doubt but Karl is a damn good coach. We'll see what happens with Javale. The odds are you are correct but a change of scenery and a different approach might be what he needs to start scratching his immense potential.

5 years and $30M seems a little cheap but his entire first year salary will go to him this year despite playing less than half the season. It is almost like a signing bonus.
That really helps Denver moving forward.
It likely wont matter I would bet large on Raps snagging Barnes/Lamb/Gilcrest /Rivers which in the end will make the losses in this short season sting less

I thought it would be done by today, but I guess they have to wait for Turiaf to clear waivers. Either way, Chandler will be a Nugget soon.
