Default UPDATED:Reggie has first full practice today! (pg. 2)

"That's my goal, the game after all-star," Evans said. "My spirit's real high. My energy is getting there. ... But don't congratulate me just yet."

Evans, whose rugged absence has been frequently lamented by Bryan Colangelo, the Toronto general manager who acquired him for Jason Kapono in an off-season trade, has yet to return to full-contact practising.

But Evans said he has been encouraged by the results of his rigorous rehabilitation to the damaged ligaments in his left foot.

On Tuesday Evans, 29, said he was put through a workout that involved quick, random cutting and "a little sprinting."

This team reminds me of the 2006-07 roster.

But a positive difference is that in 2007 we lost Garbo to that freak injury after the All-Star break, whereas this year we're going to add Reggie to the rotation.

I feel that when Reggie comes back he'll bring many of the necessary intangible elements to improve the mental resolve and increase the energy level of sereral players on the team.

I think Reggie is done for the season, this injury is taking too long to heal and even if there is a remote chance he will come back after the the All star break he won't be in good enough shape or have the hops to make a significant impact from what he usually brought to the table.

The Raptors may need to move him or find another big, through trade that is ready to go.

Evans injury reeks of Eric Montross' from back in the day. First seemed harmless only to turn out to be quite significant.

If Raps can trade Reggie they should, but they'll have to find a team who doesn't need him to contribute right away and Raps will likely have to be looking at acquiring a player they want but the other team doesn't need right now. That's a limited market.

It has been the most repeated question of the Raptors season: When is Reggie Evans going to play?

Try Feb. 17, Toronto's first game after the NBA's all-star break, at home against the Memphis Grizzlies.

At least that's the answer Evans, the defensive specialist who hasn't played a game on account of a pre-season foot sprain, was giving on Tuesday.
I'll believe it when I see it! Until then, I'm not holding my breath. If and when Reggie does return, I'm hoping he can get 15 or so games under his belt to get him used to the systems, teammates, stamina etc. This way he''ll be prepared for for the playoffs when the Raps could really use him.

The guy says he's sprinting. I believe he will be cleared to play this season.

No, the guy said "little sprinting" there is a difference.

My grandfather is 90 years old and he does little sprinting.

Yeah but your grandfather is 29 years old. Sprinting, no matter how much, is a strong sign that he's getting closer. I don't see a Montross situation here at all.

[Comment From Ry Ry : ]
Does Reggie's return date seem a bit overly ambitious to you? Less than a month away and he's yet to fully participate in practice....

I'm listening to the Fan 590 with Armstrong and Smith and they mentioned that Reggie had a full practice with the Dinos today! They said Reggie is still targeting the game after the All Star for his return.

Reggie Evans, the long-injured Raptors defensive specialist, returned to full-contact practice Monday, banging with his teammates for the first time in more than three months.

“Today was a fun day for me,” said Evans. “I finally got to a good stepping stone ... I’ve got some work to do.”

How did Evans play? He was slow to the ball, his jump shot looked wonky and he appeared out of shape, according to various accounts. And, for a guy who hasn’t played since damaging ligaments in his left foot in an Oct. 14 pre-season game, none of that was unexpected. But he managed to grab a steal, according to the post-scrimmage boxscore Evans kept in his head, and he played hard, which is his calling card.

Even if Reggie plays 10-15 minutes a game - if they're HARD minutes - he'll be a huge addition.

I won't believe it, until I see him stepping on the court during a regular season game.

We need to see the Beast from the East back on track!

I think the worst part about Reggie being hurt, other than the obvious fact that he isn't playing, is that we now know that an NBA player that makes nearly $5 million a year, only has 1 "dress" jacket and a couple pairs of jeans along with a few golf shirts. I mean, how does he get away with it when he is wearing baggy jeans with a baggy golf shirt that isn't tucked in with a crappy sportcoat? I guess that the commish has scaled back on the dress code this season. Even wearing a long-sleeved dress shirt and decent jeans would be a huge improvement. The Fashion Police need to put this guy on their most-wanted list! Either that or make him wear his warmups over his street clothes.
