Elite perimeter defender? Check.
Jump shot? Check.
Unselfish? Check.
Still only 22 years old to top it all off.
In retrospect, this is the guy we should've drafted in 2010.

Elite perimeter defender? he has potential but he's not there right now
Now of course this all depends on what you define as an "elite defender", and I think there is a flaw in saying a player has something or is something with only 1 good season to look at, but I find nothing wrong with calling him an elite defender. I can not think of 5 better defenders at the wing. He is an elite perimeter defender. He can have such an impact on a game without even getting a steal or block. I mean BleacherReport called him a better defender then Dennis Johnson. I was watching a celtics game on espn3 and they were debating if he could be the best/most talented perimeter defender in Celtic history. Countless writers have called him things like "the best full-court defender in the league" or "keystone defender".
All I know is that the Celtics without Avery are not considered a threat in the playoffs. With him, they are. Every time the Celtics beat the Heat, James and Wade said it was the effort on the defensive end from Rondo and Bradley that made the difference. He makes them that much better, and it is because of his D.
