  • Jabari Parker: "Best high school basketball player since LeBron"

Sports Illustrated's May 21 issue features Parker on the cover and an impressive spread on the inside, with a story proclaiming Parker the "best high school basketball player since LeBron James" whose faith is more important to him than instant NBA stardom.

The story also quotes Parker as being conflicted as to whether he will embark on a two-year mission when he turns 19, like thousands of other Mormon men, including his older brother.

"When he came home from his mission, we talked a lot about it," Parker says. "I want to go. But I have doubts. The NBA is the biggest dream of basketball players, and I'm not different."

Interesting. Not too many African Americans are Mormons. Those million dollar contracts over a couple of years addup. Dont blame the young fellow. He can still give in a monetary way to help those less fortunate.

I don't have a clue about the religion besides what I learned from Southpark. What is this mission should he choose to accept?

Andrew Wiggins is 2014 Consensus #1 Prospect. Many feel Wiggins will be a #1 Overall Pick when it's all said and done.
And he's Repping Canada at the FIBA Americas U18 next month too.

Jabari Parker is Consensus 2013 #1 Prospect.

Andrew Wiggins is older than Jabari Parker by two months and is considering reclassification to the the class of 2013 as Nerlens Noel pushed his high school graduation up a year this winter.

However, here's the problem with the Sports Illustrated cover and declaration: he's not even the best high school basketball player right now. Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 player in the class of 2014, is better suited to wear the “next LeBron” hat. The Canadian forward has a ceiling that is out of this world, as he continues to expand his game and utilize his unbelievable athleticism in different ways.

There are rumors that Wiggins might reclassify to the class of 2013; if he does, I would guess that most of the major services and rankings would put him No. 1 ahead of Parker. As a result, it's difficult for me to agree with Parker being the best since LeBron.
