Yes Fields is overpaid (but not crippling). It's just so ridiculous that we overpaid an RFA and now the plan is to play him out of position. Maybe our stat guys claim he's a great fit, but do they have a stat that shows how much poop was removed from his gitch after each playoff game last year?
Fields was a starter on a playoff team the last two seasons. How many raptors can say the same?
Raps got younger deeper and better. Much better positioned to get a top talent if one is available on trade market.
I'm surprised that people thought we'd come out with anything better. There was some talk (in forums) about Iguodala, Gay, etc, apparently some of you believed it would be a real possibility. I love hoping for stuff like that but it's not realistic. I've been saying this for over a year now -- the moment we decided to take the risk of drafting a player who couldn't play right away, the team committed themselves to a 3+ year 'break' from being a competitive team. Now we're looking at 2+ years. The most logical way to build a team is waiting until that window has opened before you start adding quality vets with medium to large contracts.
I honestly feared the worst after seeing years of Colangelo outbidding himself for inferior talent. But I think this team is headed in the right direction now. I think we should be able to win 10-15 more games than last year and we didn't take on any ridiculous contracts or old people. In my books, that is an improvement.

True .. but thats a bit of a misleading statement. A much stronger statement could be made for the likes of Joel Anthony "As starter on a championship/finals team the last two years" .. not sure I want him on my team.Matt52 wrote:

I don't understand why ppl feel that playoffs are out the question next year. When Bargnani was playing last year we were in contention for the eight seed. Now we come back with a better roster and you guys don't think we will be in contention for at least eight? IMO were just as Talented as Philly if not more talented.

Given raps won one more game in 16 less games played I am going to assume you meant 66 games - correct if wrong.
Assuming health I think Raps could manage 41 wins which is what 10 plus wins in an 82 game season would equate to.
Sorry but Fields played second most minutes of any Knick last year.
People undervalue playing for a winning team and overvalue numbers and stats here
In the playoffs, played 23 mpg (7th .. and Lin was out) .. in the regular season, played 29 mpg (5th .. with a barage of injuries .. so more mpg than if the team was healthy throughout).
Aggregate minutes extremely misleading as an indicator of anything given all the injuries ..
+1 I can't believe the dissapointment I'm reading about Fields. The guy can really play solid basketball.
Playing for a winning team is great if you are a key contributor to their success. Doesnt mean much if you arent. Jamal played for a winning team in Miami .. did he do much for us the next year?
Let me remind you that rookies don't become all stars overnight. Get it into your head that no all star will want to come here unless we start winning. This is a good start that BC made, I'd like to see you try to turn this team into a playoffs contender it's not easy. You like many other people on here think that our players will never improve. I'm pretty sure with each passing year players tend to get better which only makes the team better. Plus you don't always need a top of a food chain player to win, we still don't know how good JV or t Ross will be.

Landry Fields played a fair amount of minutes, started games, and contributed towards a winning team, that's different.

EDIT* I could honestly give you stats comparing the two in their playoff seasons last year. But we all know how much waste of time that is to find the stats comparing Magloire to Fields is.
He's not playing out of position he's a wing player that can play both spots comfortably. He did it in college, he did it in NYC and he's doing it now so stop complaining cause its not easy to land an all star SF especially in Toronto
I would agrue he probably did about the same for us as he did for the Heat, toughness and leadership and if you listen to Casey a pretty important part of the culture change in the locker room.
More importantly you are comparing apples to Oranges with this. Fields was a starter getting starters minutes, JM was not.

There is a reason why Landry Fields started every game for the last two years for the Knicks. Over the likes of J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert.
Landry Fields played the 3 in the playoffs, even more to add, they cross-matched their defensive structure against Miami in the playoffs. Stats are not a huge indicator that Landry was a large contributor because of the Melo 'give me the ball and hold' offense.
Fields is VERY capable of playing the 3, I'm not too worried about him playing the 3 in comparison to Demar Derozan.
