Still, if he can defend the wing at an average rate or better, then why didn't he get more league interest? Surely the Knicks, Celtics and every other team in the east with play-off aspirations would love a guy would could guard D-Wade or LeBron for even a few minutes a game (I know Pierce would love the Celtics to give him a break once in a while). What about out West? Lakers, Thunder, Spurs? I just find it odd that this guy is a "defensive stopper" on the wing with what seems like ZERO interest league wide until the Raps come calling at the end of the off-season.

We have no idea what kind of interest he drew League wide.
But I don't imagine a headline of "Atlanta rumoured to be interested in Dominic McGuire" would generate many hits across the web ...
I think you also have to read "Defensive Stopper" with a small grain of salt.
(Not that anyone has seriously called him a "defensive stopper".)
Keeping in mind how much he will cost us, and that he is a 'Casey-guy'; he is a solid pickup, relatively speaking.
He is a Role-Player, and Rotation guy. Nothing more.
Most of the "Good teams" you speak of, are quite heavy on solid Role-Players, and would likely rather leave a spot open in case someone becomes available via Waivers or elsewhere.

Why is anyone surprised that Casey wants to fill out the roster with a guy like this? Jamal is no doubt still in the Toronto plans - the slot has yet to be announced but he'll be there for the next 5-10 years.
I get your point, and when I re-read the full thread, most of the gushing came from Warriors fan perspectives that were added, but still, here are some of the lines you read in this thread:
Good tough defender
astoundingly good defensively
very rugged defender! Even shutdown Carmelo
McGuirre is effing AWESOME. He can guard 4 positions... last year we had him on guys like Deron and Rose at clutch moments
Dude is a damn good defender
He could defend all positions and shut down everyone.
Top notch defender and athlete
So I was taking the culmination of those comments to think that people actually view this guy as a legit defender in the league.
As for your point about the good teams already having solid role players, I agree that most teams have their roles, but if this guy was a defender anything like what some fans of his are saying, then surely he'd have more interest in the league than a post-labour day signing that isn't fully guaranteed. I'm sure a team like the Lakers could cut him and swallow the portion of his salary if a better player became available later on and be happy to have a guy that "destroyed Chris Paul" last year.

LOL Never read any of those actually. Thats funny.
But perhaps where the Raptors were offering a Partially-Guaranteed deal; the better teams were offering a completely Non-Guaranteed deal. Which lead to him signing with the Raps instead of the Thunder. As for your point about the good teams already having solid role players, I agree that most teams have their roles, but if this guy was a defender anything like what some fans of his are saying, then surely he'd have more interest in the league than a post-labour day signing that isn't fully guaranteed. Obviously, its ALL speculation at this point, and the only people who realy know are DM, BC and his Agent. But regardless of whether he received widespread interest, or no interest at all; his role on the team will likely be equal to that of his pay-cheque. Minimal.
Unless GSW fans know something we don't ... and in which case, he'll be starting Opening Day at the 3.

I think the signing is relative. He is, in my opinion, a good third string signing and a depth signing. Probably getting a little over analyzed due to the time of year and little is happening.
The deal is not even guaranteed it seems. Always nice to have a guy fighting for his pay cheque who is already an aggressive defender and rebounder.

Here's the thing with Allen than Mcguire doesn't have...
All-star appearances, Future hall of famer, NBA Championship, arguably the greatest shooter of all time (Reggie highest profile shooter of all-time).
Mcguire is a good defender....
Ray Allen has had the crown, he's had the riches, he's had the experience. All he wants is another ring. While Mcguire is trying to work for a minimum NBA salary at least.
I think if anybody gets injured it will be hard to get him(Dominic McGuire) out of the rotation and he will quickly become a fan favorite.
@Chr1st1anL
I'm not sure thats a fair statement.
JJ was out best Perimeter Defender last year.
If McGuire is our best going forward, I'd be surprised.
And these 'attitude' problems JJ had are complete speculation, and no one knows what went down.
The guy was all class when it came to the media and the fans. Never once complained out loud (as far as I know).
