It all starts with the Toronto Sports Media.
When they stop giving 80% of their attention solely to the leafs, and start demanding thing from the raptors management, as they do with the burke and co. then maybe heads will start to roll, and things will begin get done. BC has been arguably the worst GM in the NBA for the last 6 years, only to rival Jordan.
In NY, LA (the big sports markets), this is unacceptable, and anything other than success become scrutiny from the media. There needs to be an out-lash from the papers, sportscentre, sportsnet...oh but wait theres a problem, the television media is controlled by the team owners.
I was listening to Eric Smith and Paul Jones on the Rap on 590 after the 76ers loss, and all they did was make excuses for why we lost. No criticism dished out, and one caller even called them out, but only for Eric to say that they are trying to approach from a neutral side.
MLSE/Rogers/Bell will continue to make from the Raps regardless of wins, just because were the 5th biggest market in north american sports. The culture in toronto is to make money, its always been that way, regardless of sport. (Side note: isn't it disgusting that the Vancouver White Caps already made the playoffs and Toronto FC still hasn't). Its impossible to tell raps fans to stop watching, stop subscribing to TSN2 or attending games, just because, along with the leafs, its the only ticket in town during fall/winter and we simply love our teams. Thats why for anything to happen BC needs to be put under the hot seat by the media asap. They sing his praises wayyyy to much.
Im pissed. Why do i live in the best city in the world, with some of the best sports fans, but with the worst teams in the world. We need to be more ashamed of this. This will not fly in NY, LA, Boston, Philly, Manchester, Madrid, Barcelona and nor should it in Toronto.
