Default LA - Tor - Atl

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=akopmzm

    Tor: Smith, Harris
    Atl: Gasol
    LA: Bargnani, Calderon

There have now been several threads involving trading Bargnani and Calderon and a quite a few people want Smith.

People have recently been talking about La with D'antoni and wondering if he would prefer a true stretch 4.
I can only think of 3 in the league: Bargnani, Ryan Anderson and dirk.
Obviously Dirk will not be traded, and very doubtful Orlando will trade there last good player to LA, which leaves us with the winner!!

Calderon would fit as a back-up to Nash (although an expensive one) but his contract is up after this year, giving them a bit more flexibility.

The only problem is with Atlanta, seeing as no one really knows what there doing.
Imo, Smith will not resign there unless they make major moves during the season. If they can get Gasol for them, would they? I dont see why not. They limit the flexibility for one year, but still have tons of money to spend. If they can attract a free agent to pair with Horford and Gasol, they could become pretty solid team again.

Obviosuly we get the prize in Smith, and swap PG's from Calderon to Harris. Hopefully a change of scenery will help him, if not hes a one year back up for Lowry.

    Thoughts?

I think a simple Bargs + Jose for Smith and Harris is much more likely. I don't see LA making any major player moves in the short term, especially with the coaching move. Too much talent to break up this early.

I really like this trade. Could work for all parties. There was interest in Gasol in Atlanta at one point according to this article:
    http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/ey...ers-high-price

The reason it fell through was the Lakers were hoping for more than just Smith. Hopefully Harris is not a deal breaker.

Bargnani would excel beside Dwight, IMO. Calderon as you said is an expiring contract, freeing them of a lot of money considering the luxury tax they would have to pay.

I would definitely do this trade.

Jose in a D'antoni system? And trading Gasol from a D'antoni system? Not happening. And I think the Lakers would look for a little big of D behind Nash at the PG spot!

    I knew I missed someone.

I think Jose ould actually be great in D'antoni system for the same reason Nash is/was.

There were rumors before about trading Gasol all summer, and seeing as I feel like other players fit the system better (Bargnani) and can upgrade their bench at the same time, seems like a win-win.

In terms of talent this is a good trade idea. Not in terms of salaries though and in today's salary cap world financial flexibility is very important to GM's. LA and Toronto benefit financially but Atlanta does not. They give up two expiring contracts for a pretty big one in comparison. First of all, they'd prefer Bargnani due to his friendlier contract and age. Secondly, If they do agree to take on Gasol, they'd expect a host of draft picks including atleast one 1 st rounder.

Again in terms of talent, this is a good trade.

This could also work..... not sure other teams would agree.

Altlanta doesn't want to part ways with Smith apparently.

    I proposed this earlier.

It is tough to know what to believe in Atlanta. There have been so many stories of Smith available, Smith wanting out.

Ferry will have a tough decision in Atlanta. There is talk they are trying to get CP3, D12, and Smith and the key to it all is retaining Smith as he is friends with both. However, should he leave and it really is true he wants out, they are going to be left with nothing.

Tough decisions and risky gambles ahead.
