B. C. biggest draft mistakes. Not Barg.

The biggest regret was getting the #1 pick that year... although it could have been much worse. We could have drafted Adam Morrison or Sheldon Williams.

While I think drafting Bargnani was a mistake, I think the bigger and more important one was using him and treating him like he was a budding superstar well after it was obvious he wasn't. That of all things has been Colangelo's biggest and most influential failing.

for anyone who still believes Colangelo drafts BPA, yet more evidence that he does not.

When looking at a guy's draft history you have to look at the picks that were made after the pick that was chosen to see if he could have done any better. In most cases Bryan picked the best player even with hindsight. This includes his time in Phoenix as well.

Here is a rundown of the picks he made - I included notable 2nd round picks. Draft slot is in brackets:

Bryan isn't perfect.. no one is.. but he's made some good decisions with the cards that were dealt.

Now if you want to complain about the fact that he does not know how to trade up or down in a draft, I would have to agree 100%. He absolutely sucks at it. In fact I don't believe he's ever done that his whole career.

Maybe,,, but for anyone who watched NCAA and saw the success progress and work ethic of LaMarcus Aldridge in Highschool and through to UTexas could project his as a quality big man... The real dilema of that draft was Brandon Roy v LaMarcus Aldridge... it would have been tragic to draft BRoy.

That dude was a superstar for 3 years. With him and bosh, we could've had a good run. Sure the ending would've been tragic but I'd rather have 3 awesome years from one of the classiest, most clutch players in the league than the alternative.

good point because during the bROY years there was much jubilation in POR. My point is at the number one spot I would have deliberated between LaMarcus and Roy... But Colangelo had wood for Bargs and there was no deterring him... its evident because he keeps sticking with him.

During a Q&A discussing how teams prepare for the draft, Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star asked Toronto Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo who he would pick as his worst selection.

"I had a draft selection in Phoenix, No. 22 [in 2002]. I picked a kid named Casey Jacobsen from Stanford and Tayshaun Prince went 23rd. I missed because we had Shawn Marion and felt Prince was more or less a duplication. But I made it up by taking Amar'e Stoudemire at No 9. And then a kid Paul Millsap went 47th [in 2006]. And at 35, we took P.J. Tucker. That was a mistake."

Ironically, Tucker currently plays for the Suns and he's part of their rotation this season.

Colangelo has been in charge of the Raptors since 2006 and his first round picks include Andrea Bargnani, DeMar DeRozan, Ed Davis, Jonas Valanciunas and Terrence Ross. Those five players are still with the Raptors.

i remember the year andrea was drafted i wanted the raps to trade down and take rudy gay or just take him outright. at the same time, i get why BC took bargs.
