BOSTON -- The NBA has canceled Tuesday night's meeting between the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon explosions, and the game will not be rescheduled.
In a statement, the league said, "The NBA expresses its sympathy to all those affected by the tragedy in Boston earlier (Monday)."
That means both the Pacers and Celtics will finish with just 81 regular season games played, the first time any team will play fewer than 82 games since the league went to an 82-game schedule. The matchup would not have figured into playoff seeding anyway, since Boston has already secured the seventh seed and Indiana has clinched No. 3 in the Eastern Conference.
