  • The Defensive Regression

BC wanted an up tempo style like ala his Phoenix days made casey not practise what he preaches, pretty much wasted training camp.

-BC wanting a run and gun style of offense left defensive practises in the closet
-Numerous new players that did not know the system from last season.
-Rookie Center in starting line up with Bargnani providing awful help Defense
-Lowry gambling on D losing his man
-Calderon off the bench being useless to the team was averaging (6 turnovers off the bench)
-Fouling way too much opponents net on average 25+ ft attempts against us
-No leadership the team doesnt have a leader on the floor, have to wait for Time outs or half tme for Casey to get them in the right mindset
-Allowing 45+ points in the paint a game (bad interior D JV is a rookie Bargs not playing in post with lack of Rebounding, Amir gets in foul trouble losing him relatively early in the game)
-Casey not coaching to his strengths
-Raps ran a lot more Zone last season
-Raps ate a lot of clock usually 20 seconds for each attempt at scoring.
-Oppenents averaging 12 offensive boards bad box outs lack of rebounding (Raps are 26th in rebounding)

Im sure there is more but come next season it will no doubt be a re-tooling and establishing the defense first style of ball, the offense should take care of itself the talent is pretty high.

honestly, until BC is done making moves don't worry about anything.

      +1

with all the trades and personnel upgrades we have been trying to make, we have not talked about this and I think it needs to be said.

We are absolutely playing a mix of what BC sees for the team and how DC likes to coach. The problem is, it's not a winning formula.

For example, it's pretty clear that the Raps are told to follow in the paint rather than allow the basket. That may work at a slower pace. But if the possessions per team increase above the league average (like BC wants) you are putting the other team on the line far too much to win the game.

Another example is rebounding. If you have less talent, slowing the pace down allows each player to properly track their man when the ball goes up. If you start to play a back and forth game, there are more mismatchescreated, and 3's in transition which create long rebounds.

I think at the end of the day this comes down to pace. I truly believe that Casey knows how to teach playoff-calibre basketball, and he's being distracted by the changes we are making as a team.

It's just another reason why this year is a wash....back to the drawing board next year...re-teach the same shit and hope it sticks

Dallas 2011. High Octane offense, proficient defense. Again let BC finish tinkering

If Dallas 2011 is the blueprint, no wonder BC is going balls out to get these expensive contracts for overpaid players! He is following the blueprint to the T!
