Jose seems to be having an amazing half season with Detroit so far.
Exactly. As long as Jose is here, there will always be a PG controversy. Casey will not see it as "he left and came back" situation, but rather "he never really left" kinda thing.
I'd rather get a younger, quicker guard, who can rev and slow down the offense when needed. How bout Kendall Marshall? Or Sessions? or Augustin?
Id like to see Jose come back in a front office capacity.
I doubt BC has fallen in love with the player he traded 3 times. I seriously doubt Jose would consider coming back for anything less than the MLE. But, personally, I would love him back as a backup and retiring as a Raptor. Considering that he does love the city, is beloved by an absolute majority of the fans and has family living here, I will continue to hope for his return.
And if you were him, would you rather live here or in Detroit?![]()
Completely agree. I don't understand how this is news. "GM interested in player who was loved by teammates, fans." Cool.
But also, Eric Koreen of the National Post had a quick string of tweets about why Jose is highly unlikely to come back, simply for salary reasons. I wish I could Storify those tweets but they were a couple weeks ago.
What are you talking about? Lol. Jose has consistently been one of the best raptors on the team. He's lead the league in ast/to ratio multiple times, has had a 50/40/90 season as a raptor and has always been around 9 apg except in his first 2 seasons. His only bad season as a raptor was back in 2010. Talk about sample size
I am just saying that his performance this year, is the best he has EVER been. It is his contract year. He always plays good when there is another point guard pushing him for minutes. We saw it with TJ, we saw it with Lowry. When you make him the only point guard, he starts to slip a bit.
Nothing wrong with that, chances are you probably perform better at your job if your boss checks what you are doing as well. It's a human thing.
That said, do I want to overpay for a multi year deal at this stage of his career? No. If he wants to give us a deal and is content with a backup role, great, otherwise there is no point. I don't think he is capable of sustaining this sort of play, I may be wrong. That said we need a young guy that can grow with this team. We don't need a player that gets older, more injury prone and slower. (and then we have PG problem when we least need it)
... and yes, I think he is an awesome teammate, professional and person. I will always respect Jose and his contribution to this team. (but business is business)

Agreed.
I would totally buy into that as our bench guard, Kendall hasnt been playing the great but hey hes a rookie and he could be ours for relatively nothing I think, Hes a pass first guy, he gets scoffed at for his inablity to look for his own offence but he has the court vision that a lot of pgs seemto lack I think he is worth a gamble on average he should only be playing like 10 minutes anyway.
wrong post..

Calderon does NOT see himself as a backup. Pau Gasol said that neither Lowry nor Jose would be happy in the role. Why are we still talking about this?
The best thing that ever happened to Jose was that he was traded. He's finding out that there's life after Toronto and he'll find himself a nice situation for next year, on his own terms.
Why are we still talking about this?! because Kyle Lowry has yet to prove he is a good capable point guard. A good point guard does not make so many turnovers or silly wild mistakes during the game as much as Lowry does.
After next season he might just leave the Raptors high and dry and where will that leave the Raptors?! You know Lowry will seriously want to get paid that year, at least with Jose you will have some insurance instead of being hijacked by some outrageous demands for a point guard that seems stuborn in his ways.
True Lowry is a better player but we shell see how much he is asking for or if he really wishes to stick around, in the meantime you need insurance. So on second thought after looking at 2013 free agents list, there are plenty of second string point guard available. I am sure Colangelo will probably sign Wil Bynum for small fee.
Lowry at this point is definitely worth more that 6$ million as a player. If anything, I would only pay him as much as Demar is getting.
Yes insurance, but for the meantime until we can find a true back-up, Will Bynum is not the ideal player I would put faith in as a primary back up. Pass first guy is ideal with the way the team currently plays. Luke Ridnour is a pipe dream.
Lowry has been a good capable point guard for 3 years. Lowry is 26th in the league in turnovers per game for point guards. He's not as turnover prone has people make him out to be. Actually, his overall stats are quite good and he doesn't force his game as much as people seem to think.
I will say it again. Calderon does not see himself as a backup. If they trade Lowry and then sign Jose in the summer, then I would be ok with that.
Why is it so hard for people to let go of Jose? We've had ONE winning record in the last 11 years. I'm not attached to anybody on this team except the rookies and Rudy Gay.
I don't think this is going to happen. I love Jose, I think he is the best PG that has played for the Raptors but I think Raps. are better off without him and the controversy that his re-acquisition would create. Kyle is building a nice chemistry with Gay and the rest of the guys so IMO it better not be disturbed. An able back up PG is what we need and I'm sure BC will acquire one.
Attitude Is A Choice.
I somewhat agree with this, but think that a later reconnection would be ok. When Jose is very clearly not capable of providing a controversy to that degree, but I think he will still be among the better backups in the league...as in, his last NBA contract, which I very much doubt will be his next one. I think he's got at least one more contract after the one he signs this summer.
Well said. I am a huge Calderon fan and thought he deserved to be playing ahead of Lowry this year but I don't see the need to bring him back. It seems like they'd just be asking for the same issues to reignite next season too. There's no doubt that Lowry looks more comfortable since the trade deadline and it's nice not to have a pg controversy hanging over the team for what seems like the first time in 6+ years.
On top of all that, they probably won't have the cash to do it and I don't think Jose would come back here anyway.
Back up PG's are a dime a dozen. I don't think we'll have a problem finding one. I'd like to see the Raptors start grooming a young PG for the future though.
