all this rap stuff, lyrics, image - pointless for me, I'll never understand it. "Bitches, niggas, money, weed" meaningful.

There it is. And if it is not Wale it is some other jibberish.
in all fairness, that game was getting to be a bit of a snoozefest

I didn't watch the game, but I don't see how Devlin was in the wrong? They guy's job is to talk, so he's obviously going to say something non-basketball related, at some point. It seems like it was more a shout out to a local celeb than a dis to Wale. But I haven't heard of him either. It's not like Devlin is Dr. Dre, aka the Godfather of rap. If I was a rapper, and some honky-ass haircut wearing mutha f@#$cker didn't know who I was, I'd probably be like, "My shitz too real for him." Anyone who wants hip-hop credibility is not looking to MATT DEVLIN for approval.

I would take it as a compliment if fucking matt devlin didnt know my music. He would have lost SOOO much more street cred if Matty D was like "wale, oh yeah me and the fam bump him in the whip while i drive my kids to school."

(then leo's like "oh yee, his shit tight")

When I saw him going up to confront Devlin, I thought he must be stupid to be angry about getting so much exposure. Then I thought, how much more exposure would he get if he knocked Devlin around. Looked like Leo woulda made a run for it if he had become violent. Was waiting for them to talk about what happened but they were too afraid the bully would get angry, didn't mention his name once after that.

Never heard of him. The whole him and Gay thing are friends...the face Gay gave him after the 3...that was not friendly.
Part of the Rappers street cred is they take themselves way too seriously. That's why I can't take the music seriously.
It seems for the most part...angry and shallow. The deeper political stuff hasn't been in vogue for years. It just seems like a missed opportunity considering how many ears they're bending.

DMX is on a whole nother level than wale. I don't even listen to wale cept for like 1 or 2 songs. Drake, eh some of his songs are ok. DMX was right tho, there are a lot of shitty rappers these days.

Everyone is an expert in the music and culture that they like and identify with.

The incident was bizarre/amusing in that Devlin thought he was safe to comment on a culture outside his own personal experience from the sanctity of the broadcast area but thanks to social media he was quickly confronted and rebuked. It makes the game more interesting.

    If this was only true...

Very often people aren't experts in the music and culture they identify with. Everybody likes to see themselves that way but it's certainly not the case. The word expert is a pretty strong one. And Devlin was making the same joke he always makes which is how uncool him, Jack and Leo are. And I think that was exacerbated by the fact that Wale was front row big Pimpin' and calling out Rudy Gay. I think at that point Devlin thought he'd call him out.

Now I work in the music business. I'm a professional songwriter, certainly not in Rap or R&B but I know a fair number of the artists and I've never heard of him. That doesn't mean he's not significant or that his work isn't great. Most of the great artists have a tendency to fly under the popular radar because what they're doing is edgier than AM radio will embrace. It's pretty obvious that Devlin struck a nerve with Walle, otherwise the guy wouldn't have went hunting him. When somebody says they wouldn't do something because they're bigger than that...I think it's kind of a direct reference to things like this. Would Dre have cared or done that? Eminem? JayZ? I don't think so...

The great artists define the culture...they don't let the culture define them.

I'm not making myself clear. I'll rephrase. Everyone is the best at knowing what music that they like. So in this case, the fact that you are a songwriter and I have a music degree is not relevant.

Wale was better IMO before he signed with MMG.

The ladies love this song, at least the whores that I know.
You are the first person I hear that uses "ladies" and "whores" in 1 sentence

So am I. Maybe that is why I liked it
On a side note Wale ain't too bad. I listen to him occasionally but what a scene. Such "heroics" separate the staged rappers from real artists.

people who prefer talk radio over pop music.

i tend to listen to FAN590 a TON more on my way home everyday than any other station. I'd rather listen to random sports jibber jabber than whatever diarreah came out of drake or nicki minaj's asses and somehow managed to get fully converted into an audible format.
