Default Bummed about Rudy's inefficient shooting? Hey, at least we aren't the Bucks...

I did a little checking on B-R looking at the worst volume shooters in the league this season, and specifically which guys have the most terrible, team-killing games. I did searches at two thresholds: games with 15 or more FG attempts and 40% or worse shooting were defined as "bad games", and games with 15 or more FG attempts with 30% or worse shooting were defined as "awful games".

Here's the top ten in bad games:

    Code:
    Rk. Name # Team record
    --- ------------------ -- -----------
    1 Monta Ellis 22 10-12
    2 Rudy Gay 20 12-8
    3 Brandon Jennings 20 5-15
    4 Russell Westbrook 19 8-11
    5 James Harden 17 5-12
    6 Kobe Bryant 15 8-7
    7 Paul Pierce 15 6-9
    8 Stephen Curry 13 7-6
    9 Jrue Holiday 13 5-8
    10 Kemba Walker 13 3-10
And the top ten in awful games:

    Code:
    Rk. Name # Team record
    --- ----------------- -- -----------
    1 Monta Ellis 8 3-5
    2 Brandon Jennings 8 1-7
    3 James Harden 7 2-5
    4 Russell Westbrook 7 1-6
    5 Damian Lillard 6 0-6
    6 Raymond Felton 5 2-3
    7 Rudy Gay 5 2-3
    8 J.R. Smith 5 4-1
    9 Andrea Bargnani 4 1-3
    10 Kemba Walker 4 2-2
    Some thoughts on the lists:

    - Rudy's right near the top of the "bad games" list, but his team's record in those 20 "bad games" is 12-8. Small sample size and all, but it would appear that Rudy's bad games aren't hurting his team as much as the other guys.

    - Westbrook is the Thunder's achilles heel. Contain him while baiting him into taking bad shots and OKC's pretty mortal. If you don't manage to get a bad game out of Westbrook, OKC's practically unbeatable at 32-4.

    - When Jennings plays bad, the Bucks are turrible.

    - Bargs managed to make a top-ten appearance in awful games despite playing half as many games as most everyone else on the list.

    - Though James Harden appears on these lists, if you take a look at the game logs from his bad games, he's averaging almost 11 FTA/g in those games. So his bad ones aren't quite as inefficient as some of the other guys'. (Rudy averages just 4.4 FTA in his bad games, and Jennings averages 3.5, for comparison.)
