  • With The Current Club, What Are We Missing?

I think Colangelo needs to make another serious roster re-tooling after this season. Not as big as the last 2 years but there are 4-5 players on this current team that i don't want to see back next year.

    Out:

    Bargnani - Duh.
Lucas - I'd bring him back as a 3rd string PG. But as a backup? NO.
Kleiza - Raps need to use the amnesty on him.
Gray - There are better backup C options out there.
Anderson - Not a fan of his chucking ways. And his 1 on 1 game. Just let him walk away.

    In:

Millsap - This guy should be the Raps #1 target in the offseason.
Foye/Augustin - Any of these two would be great as a backup PG. Augustin is my first choice though.
    Korver - Raps need a 3pt specialist.
I'd fill the rest of the roster with veteran players just like what Glen Grunwald has done with the Knicks this year. I feel like this Raps team lacks veteran leadership.

I would be more than happy with Korver and Millsap. But I don't know how possible that is, given the circumstances with the salary cap. I'm guessing Demar would have to be traded away to get Millsap

My bad. Lucas and Gray are signed through next year so i guess we'll see them back. Raps still need a backup C and PG though.

Tbh When Rudy gay said we only need 1 more piece he wasnt far from the truth and a guy like Milsap is that next piece and a mature PG to run the team for 10 or so minutes while Lowry sits is key. This way we have Amir & Terrence as key guys off the bench. bolstered further with a veteran SF, that isnt chucking up shots like Anderson or Klieza...

BC doesnt have to do much just his priority should be above all first is moving Bargnani asap. The core that we have is actually a rather good one just add some older veteran guys around that know how to grind and pull their weight around them key in the locker room and on the court and outside basketball as well. I am fine keeping anderson as a guy who sits way at the end of thebench and never plays as insurance, as well as Telfair as the 3rd string.

id say we also need a coach.

          Casey's strengths: motivation and defense

          Casey's weaknesses: everything else

His qualities are perfect for the role of an assistant coach. We need a real coach to run this team.

Instead of Millsap i say we go Jefferson. He brings veteran leadership and a legit low post scoring threat. Then we move amir back to the "energy big" role

Couldn't agree more. Love the guy if he isn't running the show.
There's math, and everything else is debatable.

maybe we could talk Triano into comming back as co-coach with DC..LOL triano runs the offense & DC runs the D...

otherwise just replace DC with a proven head coach, NO MORE inept coachs, we need a REAL head coach

With The Current Club, What Are We Missing?

Very early thread, but going into the off-season, and all the Rudy Gay energy has done down, what is necessary for this team to be in the playoffs next season, and what are they missing that is holding them back from getting into this year's playoffs?

                  - Bench production? Some type of bench player that can come in, and bring some energy, and offensive presence, who can create shots on their own like a Jamal Crawford, or a J.R Smith.
                  - Low Post scoring?
                  - Veterans?
                  - Experience?
                  - New coach?
                  - Perimeter shooting?
                  - More young players?

                    Bench production mostly.

starting line up needs a post player, JV is too young and just isnt there yet needs work. better PG off the bench who will look to make High IQ plays (why a guy like Ridnour would be perfect)

Clearly. But you kind of need players to do that.

Definitely bench production, the Raptors bench isn't as consistent I do personally believe that Alan Anderson has the potential to be an amazing sixth man but he lacks consistency, I feel that if the Raptors had kept Jarrett Jack he would have been able to be that type of talent they need to hold leads and/or get out of scoring droughts. Another thing is experience, most of the roster is relatively new to the organization despite their ages and they need guys who have been in the franchise long enough to give their input in making the team better. Lastly, perimeter shooting they need guys who have 3 pt range John Lucas III and Alan Anderson has been amazing but when they don't have the touch who's really left to step up.....The Raptors need those 3 things to get them to be contenders for next year.

I agree with the choices, but I would go to an extent and say they NEED a post presence, preferably a power forward, which allows Amir to be the energy guy that helps the team hold leads or energize the game. I think perimeter shooting goes best, when the defense has to worry about the inside first, and experience might come from time. Bench though is EXTREMELY important next season. Toronto needs to go out and use the MLE if at all possible (or not able to acquire via trade) and get a scorer willing to take the sixth man role. Or a point guard who's near talent to Lowry, than is willing to be the back-up - and no, Calderon isn't that guy, he clearly sees himself as a starter.

We play too slow when we shouldn't be. Our strength lies with our perimeter players and we should be more like Denver than the Celtics. Were young and athletic, we don't have bits we can dump the ball to. Take advantage of it.
