  • Breaking Down the Saturday Game of Miami @ Memphis; "someone" was not boxing out!

If any of your guys saw the Miami game in which Miami was beaten by the game winning shot by Rudy Gay?

I was at a local Chili's @ Edmonton and witnessing the final 8 minutes in the 4th quarter, while talking to my friends.

I knew if Memphis had their competitive juices flowing in them, they were going to give Miami a really hard time with their own young Gunz of M.Gasol, Gay, Mayo, and Conely.

As a Raptor Fan, there was one thing I really want to focus on in Miami's play was the PF coverage of Chris Bosh on Zach Randolph.

I was just taking pleasure of watching Bosh blow his rebounding assignments in boxing out the bigger and hungrier Zach Randolph. If the Heat were getting burned by Randolph by the lack of box-out by Bosh, why was there no Defensive sub for Bosh if he gets worn out by Randolph? Where's Haslem?

The answer was because Haslem tore his ligament in his left foot in the 3rd quarter. Sucks to be a Miami fan now. Their hardest working player that I, myself, had a lot of respect for and always liked to see will be out till February. That meant Bosh has to be the closing PF to cover "strong" PF players that love to grab boards and have bodies and cabooses that can box out twigs like Bosh. I will show you the events of Bosh when matched up with Randolph.

The two Centers that are paired with Bosh are (Juwan Howard, opening) and Big-Z (Ilgauskas, closer)

The key events that occurred in the game that led to the winning Gay shot (ya I know it kinda sounds wrong)

*Bosh entered the 4th quarter at the start

    11:45 68-70 Zach Randolph makes 19-foot jumper

11:29 68-70 Greivis Vasquez personal foul (Chris Bosh draws the foul)
11:25 68-70 James Jones misses 26-foot three point jumper
11:23 68-70 Zach Randolph defensive rebound
11:12 68-70 O.J. Mayo bad pass (James Jones steals)
10:55 70-70 Chris Bosh makes 20-foot jumper (Eddie House assists)
    10:26 70-70 Sam Young misses 15-foot jumper
10:26 70-70 Zach Randolph offensive rebound
    10:23 70-72 Zach Randolph makes 6-foot jumper

**Randolph and Bosh trade buckets. Zach gets an O-Board and sticks a short jumper over Bosh. I think there's going to be more of that
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
9:48 70-72 Juwan Howard shooting foul (Zach Randolph draws the foul)
9:48 70-73 Zach Randolph makes free throw 1 of 2
9:48 70-74 Zach Randolph makes free throw 2 of 2

9:33 70-74 Darrell Arthur shooting foul (Chris Bosh draws the foul)
9:33 71-74 Chris Bosh makes free throw 1 of 2
9:33 71-74 LeBron James enters the game for James Jones
9:33 72-74 Chris Bosh makes free throw 2 of 2

    9:18 72-74 Zach Randolph misses 17-foot jumper
9:15 72-74 LeBron James defensive rebound

**Juwan Howard is too old and weak to contain Zach and Zach goes to the line, Bosh gets a call and shoots two as well
    -----------------------------------------
    8:12 77-76 O.J. Mayo misses 26-foot three point jumper
8:11 77-76 Zach Randolph offensive rebound
8:11 77-78 Zach Randolph makes two point shot (AND-1)
8:11 77-78 Chris Bosh shooting foul (Zach Randolph draws the foul)

    8:11 77-78 Official timeout
8:11 77-78 Marc Gasol enters the game for Darrell Arthur
8:11 77-79 Zach Randolph makes free throw 1 of 1

**Things get fun to watch, Zach boxes out Bosh from OJ's 3pt miss and gets the And-1 as Bosh's box-out attempts cannot contain Zach
    -----------------------------------------
5:33 85-81 Chris Bosh personal foul (Zach Randolph draws the foul)
5:24 85-81 O.J. Mayo misses two point shot
5:22 85-81 Marc Gasol misses tip shot
5:22 85-81 Marc Gasol offensive rebound
5:20 85-83 Marc Gasol makes tip shot
5:20 85-83 Marc Gasol offensive rebound

5:00 85-83 LeBron James misses layup
4:58 85-83 Zach Randolph defensive rebound
4:48 85-83 Mike Conley misses 11-foot two point shot
4:48 85-85 Zach Randolph makes layup
4:48 85-85 Zach Randolph offensive rebound

**Zach draws one foul on Bosh, then Bosh does not succeed in helping or boxing out Marc Gasol from getting two offensive tips leading to a bucket. Zach grabs a board and then gets another offensive rebound away from Bosh for a layup. Tsk* Tsk* Bosh... Haslem is out take some initiative on the rebounding you Diva.
    ---------------------------------
4:13 85-85 Zach Randolph misses 7-foot two point shot
4:11 85-87 Rudy Gay makes two point shot (Nasty-tip dunk)
4:11 85-87 Rudy Gay offensive rebound

** Nasty slam by Ruday, and "someone" did not help out on securing the rebound.
    ---------------------------------

    2:21 90-89 O.J. Mayo blocks Zydrunas Ilgauskas's 4-foot jumper
2:19 90-89 Zach Randolph defensive rebound
    2:15 90-91 O.J. Mayo makes 4-foot two point shot

    2:15 Miami full timeout

** Bosh could of tried to bodied Zach from getting that board and prevent to leak out by OJ, but nooooooo
    ---------------------------------
1:32 90-91 Mike Conley misses 26-foot three point jumper
1:31 90-91 Zach Randolph offensive rebound
1:30 90-91 Mario Chalmers blocks Zach Randolph's layup
1:30 90-91 Memphis offensive team rebound
1:13 90-91 Rudy Gay misses layup
1:12 90-93 Zach Randolph makes layup
1:12 90-93 Zach Randolph offensive rebound

**Zach grabs two off. rebounds and converts a bucket, Bosh failed his coverage big time
    -----------------------------------------
0:58 90-93 Zach Randolph blocks LeBron James's layup
0:56 90-93 Zach Randolph defensive rebound
0:38 90-95 Mike Conley makes layup

    0:38 Miami full timeout

**Zach actually blocked a shot???? Lead to Conley opportunity for a 5 pt lead, Zach uses his huge caboose to block off Bosh in the paint that allowed Conley to get a layup uncontested. Bosh did not fight through Zach to at least have an offensive foul called on Zach.
    ------------------------------------
0:31 93-95 Chris Bosh makes 26-foot three pointer (Eddie House assists)
0:09 93-95 Rudy Gay lost ball (Eddie House steals)
0:05 95-95 LeBron James makes dunk (Eddie House assists)

**Bosh had a lucky banker go in and Lebron converts the Gay turnover
    --------------------------------
    0:05 Memphis full timeout
0:00 95-97 Rudy Gay makes 14-foot two point shot
0:00 End of the 4th Quarter
    0:00 End Game

**And what a Gay ol' Time!!!!!!

    Randolph Vs. Bosh

    Randolph: 21 pts (8-14 FG, 5-7 FT), 13 reb (6 off.), 1 blk, 1 asst, 0 stls, 2 PFs

    Bosh: pts ( 8-14 FG, 3-4 FT), 10 reb (2 off.), 1 blk, 1 asst, 2 stls, 4 PFs

    4th Quarter Battle:

    Randolph: 11 pts ( 4 FG, 3 - 3 FT), 9reb (5off.), 1 blk, 0 asst, 0 stls, 1 PFs

    Bosh: 7 pts ( 2 FG, 2-2 FT 1-1 3pt ), 2 reb (0 off.), 0 blks, 0 asst, 0 stls, 2 PFs

Randolph wins the rebounding and box-out battle by a score of 14 - 2 against Bosh.

Raptors might dumped out one of their problems in the lack of effort for clutch rebounding in the 4th qtr.

Pat Riley is pissed, especially that there will be no committed rebounder on the team that fights for loose balls now.

They will have to send in Erika Dampier now and go probably above the tax to sign a vets minimum.

Miami right now has no true committed rebounder. They will make the playoffs, but they will have no athletic enough blue collar player to help them win any rebounding battles in the future consistently.

Last year other PFs used to be quite pissed when CB was written up as the best PF in the game. Zach R. and Amare S. were two who made public statements about that.

Bargs will have to work on boxing out, and it will take him 2000 yrs to know how to do it properly. I hope Reggie, Amir, Dorsey and Ed Davis can rub off the effort on to Bargs to go after rebounds no matter what the situation is.

                Woah

                excellent post

I watched some of the game and bosh was keeping up, but then, bam, zach got into him a few times and all of a sudden bosh is getting dominated. The one sign that a team is not boxing out are tip dunks.

Dam, this must have taken forever.

                thanks for this
