      Don't forget ...

      President, Bryan Colangelo

I noted how Masai mentioned in the article above that he likes to keep a small staff who are not limited to regional scouting. Perhaps this explains the Alvin Williams' situation. Either A) Ujiri did not believe in Alvin Williams' abilities as a scout to put him in his 'small' staff [or] B) Williams was not willing to get his ass off Philly & scout all over the world -- which can be tough for family, etc.

Either way, Masai mentions the idea of establishing an identity for the Raptors -- which is an organization filled with driven & hard working individuals [& it starts from the top]. This is probably why his hires are intriguing since we have not really heard of these names before yet they come with some degree of expertise in the nuances of the game. They are young & relatively unproven individuals so you can bet they will work their asses off in hopes of establishing a personal brand for themselves.

Like I've mentioned before, I think that changes will come in regards to the roster gradually. I don't sense a complete blow up of the roster because then, you wouldn't need all these experts in "salary cap management" -- at least right now. Instead, I think the Raptors will take advantage of market inefficiencies in order to optimize the potential of the roster; timing of the trades, when to extend players, assessing player value, etc.

I'm hoping that good scouting + careful asset management will result into success for the Raptors ... Please !!!!!

          Don't also forget.....

          President AND GM, Masai Ujiri

After the flush in the front office, I really and truly don't believe Colangelo will have ANY say on decisions. He might be asked for input but I think that might be a courtesy and regardless of his answer will likely have little bearing on the given situation. He is collecting a pay cheque while waiting for another opportunity and doing all the non-basketball stuff a front office executive would do for a team.

I will be surprised if Bryan is still with the Raptors by September.

I guess thats it for Steve Fruitman (BC's capologist). Has Doug Smith written a column on him as yet?

My sense is that MU is getting the gym rat equivalents for his help....24/7 on the job and living out of a suitcase. It wont be lack of work ethic then as he would have it with the players.

Fruitman seems to get a lot of love by the fans/media.. but all he really did was help Bryan by trading Marion for Hedo so that he could keep his Mid Level (to be used on Jack).

If he was in anyway responsible for some of the things that went public during Bryan's tenure then I'll be glad if he's no longer making decisions.. When it was leaked that Bryan was interested in Matt Barnes even though it would have been an illegal transaction... or Wilson Chandler, when they had no money.

I'm not sure if that was all on Bryan or if that was Fruitman not doing his homework before the news leaked.. but if Fruitman is being swapped for someone else, that's probably a good thing - at least in my opinion.

He is being swapped...I refer to the Bob Webster hire...among other things he will be the new cap-man. Fruitman may stay in another capacity but I probably doubt it.

I just want to go on record as saying that I really like how the Raptors are retooling their front office....

Our cap specialist worked for 7 years handling complicated cap issues for 30 teams at the NBA office

Our CEO was an enormous player in the LA Sports market and has a fantastic track record

Our GM and Pres is the Executive of the Year

Our director of scouting helped spot gems like Faried and Lawson

and if BC stays he is fantastic at the marketing and business relations end of basketball

and as Tim Chisholm pointed out in a recent article leaving Casey will be a genius move if we get year 1 Casey and coach friendly
if we need to go out and hire a new one after an extensive retooling of the roster.

It just feels like a lot of right decisions are being made.
