Before end of Ross' rookie deal I see him or DeRozan traded.
However, the two have fit incredibly well together in my opinion. Play off one another's strengths, and cover each other's weaknesses.

The 2 & the 3, apples and oranges, tomayto, tomahto; in today's NBA it's more regarded as the "wing" positions. No real separation other than when bigger/smaller players are slotted in, and that's usually how the position is distinguished, or sometimes is.

Size is the one area both have the same weaknesses versus larger wing players.

The BC era was filled with finding incomplete players that compliment one another.

I'd like to see a collection of talented complete or near complete basketball players versus a collection of borderline specialists covering for one another's weaknesses.

I think you're trying to squeeze the 'borderline specialists' thing.

The two just fit together really well, and obviously they had tons of success playing alongside one another. Maybe Casey did feel like they would cover each other's weaknesses, however they play off one another's abilities, and I'd take a better fit than a redundancy or "who's the guy?" issue. I wouldn't define DeRozan nor Ross as borderline specialists. They do certain things really well, in DeMar's case, score, and Terrence's case, 3-&-D, but they have taken steps in improving every other facet of their game (upped totals in certain parts - assists, rebounding, steals, field goal/free-throw/3-point shooting percentages).

Ross doesn't have bad handles to be honest, I was watching game 2 and was impressed by a few of his crossovers.

Yeah, they're alright, he's shown flashes. Ball handling seems to come more natural to Ross than, say, DeMar. If Ross puts in as much work on his handles as DeRozan is doing this offseason, he could be a great ISO player as well as a 3&D guy.

          • There is no such thing as 2s and 3s anymore. It's just wings. When you look at it that way majority of the night our wings are usually bigger that others. both DD and Ross are 6'7". Dd is bigger at around 215. I'm hoping Ross is at least around 210 now. Dd got a 6'10" wingspan, Ross has a 6'7" wingspan. On most nights in the NBA that more than enough size to get you through.

These guys will be a fine wing duo for years to come. Everybody is always saying "what if VC and TMac stayed together?". Let's not wonder about these too.

I get your point but that is an awful example.

Yes he does. Terrence definitely gained muscle, no question.

COMP10's committed himself to working on his dribble this summer. Too many late game situations whereby he lost control & turned the ball over, I guess.

Terrence has gotten bigger, not only because he has to guard guys like Kobe, PG & JJ but, also because he's going to have to drive more often. Finish in a crowd and through contact. For this reason, he's also going to have improve his ball-handling.

The league knows that he can hit 3s so defenders will be playing him close on the perimeter. When they try to close him out, it'll be nice if he has the size and handles to blow by them and get to the bucket.

DeDe was among the league leaders for FTAs & I think he's imparted to TR31 that he's going to need to get to the line more often as the starting SF. #gobigorgetbenched

                              • Good read on Ross developpement:

Ross believes he is a defensive-minded player and those same tools that could add to his offensive arsenal can turn him into a defensive stopper on the wing as well. The playoff experience opened Ross’ eyes as to how far he still has to go to become a good NBA player and the timing of that somewhat brutally rough experience guarding Joe Johnson in games that mattered couldn’t have been better. Not every lottery draft pick benefits from a seven game playoff series against a veteran laden team in just their second season and as much as Ross improved during the regular season, he wouldn’t have realized just how much further he had to go and how much harder he needed to work in the summer without the lessons learned in the postseason.

“I’ve built a relationship with (Coach) Casey,” Ross said. “He’s been a great coach. He has taught me a lot, especially when it comes to defense. I give him a lot of credit for how I play on the court.”

Casey’s focus on player development during the regular season and playoffs should be expected to payoff with a much improved Ross patrolling the wing for the Raptors this time around. A breakout season really shouldn’t surprise anyone.

The raptors are a tremendous young team and will win a championship in the following five years.
