Should Ujiri take Toronto job, unclear what fate of Dwane Casey would be. Casey started NBA coaching career under Denver's George Karl

Hawks GM Danny Ferry to USAT on hiring of Spurs asst Mike Budenholzer: "Smart, been a very important part of Spurs overall program..."

More Ferry: "...style of play will be system based on both ends." Spurs influence grows again. Great hire.

i would hope the 1st question Mr.Leiweke asks any potential GM is do you think Dwayne Casey is the best choice of coach moving forward? if the answer is yes then it's a short interview and on to the next i would say....why? Because he is the most system of system coaches it's been my painful duty to watch for the past couple years. this man has absatootly no in game management skills that i can see.
-he has his substitutions scripted and most games to the point i can almost set my watch to them. how many games did we see hot players removed or stone cold players left in? it's all pre-scripted as far as i could see
-he is generally 2-3 minutes late with his timeouts, the little fire that could have been put out is now a full blown crisis by the time he gets to it in most cases
-he is obsessed with matching up to the other team to the point of putting inferior lineups on the court..... how many small ball lineups did we endure while better players rode the pines? did you ever see anyone slower to the trigger of what was quite obviously our best lineup after the Gay trade?
-for most of the season my nick name for our best young stud was Jonas the amazing ¾ man!
-he almost always starts the fourth ¼ with a scrub lineup figuring we need our best players rested to finish a game i guess but all i can envision is the 8 point lead we had evaporating to an 8 point deficit and momentum swung and another game lost by the time the clock has ticked to the point where his chart says it's time to make a switch
-have you ever seen a team with worse inbound plays? the man seems to have no imagination at all
please give us a coach that will not only utilize and maximize our roster but has an actual feel for the ebbs and flows of a basketball game. give us a coach that will shorten the bench and pound on a team when the opportunity is there or make the quick changes when the original plan is obviously not working. give us a coach who can readjust on the fly after the other side comes up with an answer
he strikes me as hard working, knowledgeable basketball man who would make a great assistant coach but i would not have him ever holding the clip board while a real game is running

San Antonio: 7th OffRtg, 3rd DefRtg
Miami: 2nd OffRtg, 7th DefRtg
Miami does it with superstar talent and complimentary pieces while SA does it with borderline superstar talent (Timmy is great but not what he was) with complimentary pieces/ideal fits to the system.

Parker is an all-star, no question.
I think what a better way to describe the complimentary pieces to the system is to take a look at the on/off court net +/- on the season for the Spurs this season. Not a single player is in the negative.

I agree, He's better suited for asst. Coaching. The new GM would be foolish to retain him unless the plan is to tank,
Casey was overrated by Raps fans last season and is being unfairly blamed this year. The truth is that the team isn't very good. Mitchell got fired even though the problems weren't his fault, so that Colangelo could escape blame. Same with Triano. May as well throw Casey under the bus as well.
Maybe the reason we can't get Ujiri to Toronto is that he's having trouble climbing over the pile of bodies that are past Raptor scapegoats (Carter, Bosh, Turkoglu, O'Neal, Babcock, Bargnani, Triano, Mitchell, O'Neill).....
Having said all that, I don't think Casey is the answer here and would be happy to see him go. But let's not delude ourselves that it will solve much of anything with this mess of a roster going forward.

I have never agreed with Mitchells firing. Mithcel was not great but a good Coach but I wouldn't say the same about Casey. Casey is not a good Coach.Attitude Is A Choice.

I think anyone that think casey is a bad coach is delusional, someone said a few posts up that when the jumpers are dropping the offense is fine.
lets think about that for a second, last time I checked casey was the coach,he is not on the court missing shots so how is the offense bad if the player misses the shot but good if the player hits the same shot?
nothing is wrong with casey, the players on this team and in the nba get paid to hit that open shot, coach draws up the play to get the open shot, they have to hit it end of story.

I'm sure Casey would be the first to admit that the offense that was run last season was pretty bad
