The “yup, no reason to be negative at all, eh buddy?” edition Banks – missed a chippy, tossed up an airball, even committed 3 fouls in less than 10 minutes of playing time. I’ve seen more upside in the hairstyles of Kid N Play. Bargnani – he looked as graceful as an elephant doing ballet…. Read more »
The “miracles don’t happen” edition Banks – showed a little bit of promise in the limited time he played. As I recall, so did Primoz Brezec. If ball doesn’t pan out, he can always fill in for Tracy Morgan. Bargnani – 2 quick fouls. Not going to be a good thing for our squad if… Read more »
First things first: join me in wishing RapsFan a speedy recovery. He’s going through a heck of a bad streak on the health side of the ledger and I’m betting some good vibes his way will be well received. In the meantime, enjoy the sponge baths dude. The “who said hard work doesn’t pay off”… Read more »
The “all good things must come to an end” edition Bargnani – meh. Passable offensive game offset by some horrible defense most of the night. Trade him. Bosh – at least he is on the bench, unlike some other highly paid athletes. Keep him. Calderon – the turnstile was in full use tonight. Welcome to… Read more »
The “well, at least it wasn’t a blow out” edition Bargnani – posted a double double on a night that it didn’t even appear he was on the floor. Magic act indeed. Bosh – think he had a little gusto in his back pocket tonight? His shots were falling but, again, he needs to up… Read more »
The “still wondering why they deserved no credit for a 3 game win streak?” edition Bargnani – horrid shooting night offset by some fairly good D on a guy that 2 years ago would have manhandled him. You have to think it caused Bargs to exert a lot of energy since, when he did take… Read more »
The “start printing those playoff invoices” edition Bargnani – he had as much rhythm tonight as an elephant trying to dance to drum and bass. Completely taken out of his element and piling up on the fouls like AB V1.0. Bosh – I might start calling him Lobsterboy. If I didn’t see the odd close… Read more »
The “young turks” edition. Adams – only one thing will enable this guy to play any quality NBA minutes: Gatorade being deemed a stimulant and anybody who drinks it is banned from playing in the league. Bargnani – shooting .500 from the floor, showing confidence, not hesitating….yet Coach Triano sits him during the decisive part… Read more »
This I can explain. His low usage rate when he is on the floor minimize his impact on team stats, such as team O/D rating and even plus minus (since that stat also accounts for the other members of the rotation. However, when he is being used, his individual stats, or the stats that are only dependant on his contributions, he looks pretty good, pretty great even.
Basically, like what everyone else has been saying, it comes down to usage rate. Involve him enough in the offense and there's no reason why his individual efficiency won't be reflected in the team stats.
Now here's where you might say "but the raptors lose more when he shoots more than average, so the usage rate argument doesn't hold up". That's a fair point, but I would argue that Jonas often gets those extra field goals when A) the guards are putting up a ton of bricks and Jonas is cleaning the glass, or B) he's a last resort after its clear that the other scoring options aren't working. In both scenarios, the team as a whole is playing below average, so it makes sense that they would win a lower percentage of games.
