Although Lowry and the Raptors refused to give specifics as to Lowry’s injury status, it was apparent from watching him play that he had a dislocated finger on his left hand, at the very least. Lowry had also logged 500 more minutes played than any other Raptor before sitting out.
Be it fatigue or injuries, the effect bore itself out in Lowry’s dwindling performance. Lowry is averaging 11.9 points, 5.3 assists and 2.9 turnovers in 31 ineffectual minutes per game over his past seven contests. His shooting numbers were even worse, clocking in at 31.9 percent from the field and 20.5 percent on 3-point attempts.
In three games without Lowry, the Raptors beat the Philadelphia 76ers and lost to the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers. Lowry’s fill-in Greivis Vasquez fared well over that stretch, logging averages of 10.7 points and eight assists, while connecting on 43.8 percent of his 3-point attempts in 33.8 minutes per contest. Vasquez will slide back into a bench role.
