Toronto Raptors 87 Final
Recap | Box Score
89 Minnesota Timberwolves
Anthony Bennett, PF 23 MIN | 3-5 FG | 1-4 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 3 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 10 PTS | +7 +/-Most active game of the pre-season and not surprisingly, his active defense helped his offensive confidence and he hit three threes.

DeMarre Carroll, SF 20 MIN | 1-5 FG | 2-2 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 4 PTS | +1 +/-Played mostly in the first half, didn’t look for his shot too much and was content playing the point forward in spurts. Kind of took it easy this game.

Jonas Valanciunas, C 12 MIN | 3-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 6 PTS | +3 +/-Had a couple nice moves, including one against KAT, couple blown gimmes, same old. It was tough to get up for a game like this knowing Casey’s planning on playing the scrubs exclusively. Fared well against KAT on both ends.

Cory Joseph, PG 18 MIN | 2-3 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 3 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 5 PTS | +3 +/-Regular service.

DeMar DeRozan, SG 20 MIN | 2-7 FG | 3-4 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 7 PTS | +4 +/-Trust him to look rusty and creaky even when nobody of merit is guarding him. Still seems to labour in getting his points, and there’s NOTHING easy for him out there. it almost like the game slows down when he has the ball and every move he makes is in slow motion and easy for the D to catch up to.

James Johnson, PF 17 MIN | 5-8 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 11 PTS | -6 +/-Played a bunch of center today in lineups with Bruno and Bennett out there, and had some nice moves. Casey said not to read anything into it and that it’s just a way to get guys minutes in meaningless games.

Patrick Patterson, PF 26 MIN | 2-4 FG | 2-2 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 8 PTS | -6 +/-Miserable game again, but at least he hit a shot. He’s too unselfish to get himself out of his slump by shooting his way out of it. The Raptors don’t really run any plays for him, so when he’s playing without a guy like Lowry, he’s wandering out there figuring out where to stand and how to score. Couldn’t handle the pass on the potentially game-tying basket. Blah.

Bismack Biyombo, PF 19 MIN | 3-4 FG | 4-6 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 1 TO | 10 PTS | -2 +/-Emm. Vee. Pee. Emm. Vee. Pee.

Bruno Caboclo, SF 19 MIN | 1-7 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 3 PTS | +5 +/-For a guy who can’t shoot, he sure shoots a lot of threes. Did put up more of a fight on D, especially at the rim where he knows he can react late and still contest the shot.

Delon Wright, PG 21 MIN | 5-6 FG | 0-2 FT | 3 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 11 PTS | -5 +/-First game where he was able to dribble the ball up the court without looking like it was a live grenade. Had a few drives in transition where he surprised the defense and finished. Progress.

Shannon Scott, PG 9 MIN | 1-2 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 2 PTS | 0 +/-Remember Shannon Stewart? Played for the Jays way back. Leadoff hitter? No? He was alright, one day came to my work and shook my hand.

Axel Toupane, SG 9 MIN | 0-0 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -11 +/-Awesome first name. Horrible last name.

Norman Powell, SG 28 MIN | 3-12 FG | 4-4 FT | 0 REB | 2 AST | 3 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 10 PTS | -3 +/-Got that roster spot locked down and he’s got a green light to shoot. Very active on defense, always looking to cause a turnover in the backcourt and start a break.

Michale Kyser, SF DNP COACH’S DECISION MIN | FG | FT | REB | AST | STL | BLK | TO | PTS | +/-Look for him in the Uzbekistanian league in a few weeks.

Dwane Casey
Didn’t care about this game. It was all about giving people some run.

One Thing We Saw

  1. Raps blew a 15 point lead. This game taught us nothing because it was coached and approached like an open practice at the ACC where players blast out t-shirts from cannons at halftime.
  2. Ross and Lowry didn’t play. Ross didn’t travel to Ottawa due to his sore ankle which he rolled, and Lowry was rested (which sucked for the fans who paid for the tix).
