Raptors 905 trade Melvin Johnson to Texas Legends

What a deadline!

Anyone disappointed with the Toronto Raptors at the NBA trade deadline should at least be pleased with the efforts of Raptors 905 as the D-League hit their final trade buzzer on Friday.

Right before the 5 p.m. deadline, the 905 completed their third deal of the day, sending Melvin Johnson III to the Texas Legends for a fourth-round pick in the 2016 draft.  In 30 games with the 905 this season, Johnson averaged 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 41.2 percent from the floor and 41.1 percent on threes.

The final tally for the day for the 905 is as follows:

OUT: Melvin Johnson III, 905’s 2nd-round pick, Santa Cruz’ 3rd-round pick, returning player rights to Abdul Gaddy
IN: E.J. Singler, Davion Berry, Texas’ 4th-round pick

The 905’s draft stock now looks like this:

The busy day leaves the 905’s draft cupboard a little bare:

  • 1st: None
  • 2nd: Grand Rapids
  • 3rd: None
  • 4th: Own, Bakersield, Texas
  • 5th: Own

And their roster now looks like this when everyone’s healthy:

PG: Shannon Scott, John Jordan, Ashton Smith
SG: Scott Suggs, Davion Berry
SF: E.J. Singler, DeAndre Daniels (injured)
PF: Ronald Roberts (injured), Michale Kyser
C: Sim Bhullar, Keanau Post

It’s unclear if the new players will be in uniform Saturday when the 905 tip-off against Maine at 2p.m. at the Hershey Centre. Expect a few Raptors to be assigned just in case.
