Delon Wright is cleared for contact in one-on-one drills.
The injured Toronto Raptors point guard filled in Sportsnet’s Eric Smith on Wednesday after rejoining the team in Philadelphia, laying out his next month or so. Wright will be able to go one-on-one for the next two weeks, then progress to two weeks of three-on-three contact. The hope is that following those two stints, he could make a return by Jan. 17.
Wright underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum on Aug. 1, and he was expected to miss “at least” four months. He’s anticipating making a rehabilitation stint with Raptors 905 of the D-League at some point to get his conditioning back up, and it seems theoretically possible he could be assigned there for extended practice time when the Raptors hit the west coast over the holidays (the 905 have a four-game home stand around the turn of the calendar, and full practice time, or even 3-on-3 work, is notoriously hard to come by on long road trips). In any case, this is great news.
The game is on and I’m getting this up during a commercial break, but everything you could need to know about Wright, his recovery, and his place with the team can be found here and here.
