S. Ibaka28 MIN, 9 PTS, 4 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 3-11 FG, 1-4 3FG, 2-2 FT, 3 BLK, 2 TO, -16 +/-

Didn’t have his shot tonight, finishing 3-11 from the field. Showed flashes of some great defense, but the Raptors as a team failed to communicate, and cover switches, so just about everyone looked very bad at times, including Ibaka.

N. Powell35 MIN, 14 PTS, 1 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 5-14 FG, 0-4 3FG, 4-6 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -14 +/-

Got the start for the injured Carroll tonight. Really struggled on the offensive end shooting 5-14 from the field, a lot of them tough shots. Not his best night tonight..

C+
J. Valanciunas21 MIN, 10 PTS, 10 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 5-6 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -18 +/-

Valanciunas was probably the best Raptor on the floor tonight. Was amazing getting put-backs, pulling down 4 offensive rebounds. It’s surprising the Raptors didn’t look for him more while he was on the floor, seemed efficient when the ball was dumped down to him.

D
C. Joseph22 MIN, 6 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 1 STL, 3-8 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -13 +/-

Didn’t look great all around. Joseph has looked a lot better recently specifically on the defensive end.

D
D. DeRozan28 MIN, 17 PTS, 4 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 5-16 FG, 0-2 3FG, 7-7 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -12 +/-

DeRozan looks very very tired right now. With Lowry out, DeRozan is tasked to carry a majority of the Raptors offensive load. He came out hot in the first quarter, but didn’t have much momentum past that quarter..

C-
D. Wright25 MIN, 13 PTS, 3 REB, 3 AST, 3 STL, 5-8 FG, 0-0 3FG, 3-3 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, 2 +/-

Much like VanVleet, Wright didn’t look very good early on. But when playing with the young core in the final minutes, he played much better.

D+
F. VanVleet20 MIN, 5 PTS, 4 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 1-10 FG, 0-3 3FG, 3-3 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, 1 +/-

Looked really rough when brought off the bench early in the second quarter. But looked better in the fourth, looking to create ball movement rather than taking shots.

B
J. Poeltl19 MIN, 6 PTS, 9 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 3-8 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-2 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 3 +/-

Although he struggled to land some shots close to the rim, Jakob looked great hustling on the boards. Pulling down 6 offensive rebounds, and 9 total boards. Jakob continues to impress when he gets playing time.

D
P. Patterson18 MIN, 5 PTS, 2 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 1-2 FG, 1-1 3FG, 2-2 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, -5 +/-

Hasn’t looked himself since coming back from his knee injury. Looked a step slow defensively, and very tentative shooting the ball. Got ejected early in the fourth quarter for arguing with the refs, kinda summed up the entire mood of the Raptors tonight.

D
P. Tucker14 MIN, 0 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 0-1 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -8 +/-

Only saw 14 minutes tonight, picked up two early fouls in his first shift, and didn’t see much time after that.

C
P. Siakam9 MIN, 4 PTS, 5 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 2-4 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, 5 +/-

Played limited minutes in the fourth quarter. Looked energized on the offensive end, and showed some flashes on the defensive end, but struggled guarding LeBron *cough cough* I mean James Johnson.

C
Dwane Casey

This has been a long road trip. Can’t say much about Casey in this game when the Raptors look this gassed. Was nice that we saw some of the young guys play late in the fourth (And play not too badly).

Things We Saw

  1. You may chalk this up as a schedule loss, but this was one of the Raptors worst performances of the year. Both ends of the floor were a mess, and the Raptors looked very tired while executing. Also didn’t give too many “F” grades tonight, Raptors look like they need a sleep in their own beds.
  2. I didn’t mention defense too much in many of the player grades, because the Raptors as a team were bad defensively. Coach Casey went deep into his bench early in the game, but the 27-15 second quarter clobbering by the Heat showed that the bench didn’t have any solutions.
  3. The Miami Heat entering tonight’s game have been playing some really really good basketball. Since the All-Star break they are 4th in offensive rating, 4th in defensive rating, and first in net rating. Don’t let the standing fool you here, this loss was against a quality opponent.
  4. We need Kyle Lowry back.
