Raptors head coach and local subway musician, Nick Nurse talked about if Delon Wright is ready to go:
He’s on track, and we’re not 100% sure he’s ready to go, but we think he is. He did practice today but it was a pretty light day, practice-wise. I’m ready to throw him out there, and put the worries on me on how it plays out.
On asked if his minutes would come at the expense of others (e.g., Norman Powell):
Probably, yeah, probably. Hahahahaha. I don’t know who that’s going to be, probably depends on who’s playing well and how it goes. I think all the guys that’ve been playing will still get an opportunity. Maybe it’s a little shorter stint of an opportunity, and they’ll have to make the most of them when they get them.
He also hinted at Fred Van Vleet and Delon Wright playing together as part of the bench unit, who he feels can be as effective as last season:
Most of that group together can be good again. I think Fred and Delon are awfully good together, so I can see us getting to those two guys for sure.
Delon Wright also spoke to the media about whether he’s willing to take his time:
I don’t want to rush this thing back because I don’t want it to be lingering for the whole year.
He also spoke about his anticipated combination with Fred Van Vleet:
Two ball-handlers. He’s a good spot-up shooter too and I’m good at penetrating and finding open shooters, and that helps. When he has the ball, he can find me, and I’m back-cutting. I think we work well together.
On Serge Ibaka progression:
He’s more, I would say, in the paint this year. Last year he was floating around, trying to find a spot to be effective…he really knows where he’s going to get the ball.
You can also check out Serge’s post-practice interview where he’s saying a bunch of stuff which I can’t be bothered to transcribe right now. I did catch this:
I’m really surprised that I’m playing full-time five. That’s something I don’t mind. It’s good for me.
On whether it’s difficult not knowing if he’ll come off the bench or starter in any given game:
I’m going to be honest with you, it’s not that easy, it’s tough. But hey, if it’s good for the team, we’re winning right now and we have to focus on that and just be ready when my name is called.
Overall, it’s a light practice day for the Raptors who face Minny on Wednesday night.
