Raptors 905 opt-in to new G League season in “Disney Bubble”

Raptors 905 and the G League will make its return

Raptors 905 have opted-in to the upcoming G League season becoming one of the 18 teams that will participate in the “Disney World Bubble” near Orlando, Fla. beginning in February, where the Los Angeles Lakers were crowned NBA champions a few months ago. The official news announced on Friday doesn’t come as a surprise as Masai Ujiri had stated weeks ago that the 905 would participate in any plans by the league for return-to-play.

Although an official game and broadcast schedule has yet to be released, the season is reportedly expected to last one month and eight teams will eventually advance to a single-elimination playoff.

Canadian sharp-shooter Nik Stauskas recently signed with Raptors 905, and Yuta Watanabe and Jalen Harris will also be a part of the club as the Raptors’ two-way contract players, but at this time full roster details have not been made available. Patrick Mutombo was announced as the team’s new head coach last December after Jama Mahlalela rejoined Nick Nurse’s coaching staff.

This season will bring some refreshed excitement not just as the league will make its return but the newly formed G League Ignite team is set to make its anticipated debut. The new club consists of future lottery draft and 5-star prospects such as Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, and Daishen Nix, who decided to joined the developmental program instead of playing college basketball in the NCAA.

Raptors 905 played their last game on March 11th, 2020 where the club won 129-116 over the College Park Skyhawks, closing out the cancelled 2019-20 campaign with a 22-21 record.
