Raptors 905 Season Comes To An End With 127-100 Loss To Delaware

Raptors 905's outstanding G League Bubble season comes to an end.

Final Score: Raptors 905 100, Delaware Blue Coats 127 | Box Score

Two Ways: Jalen Harris (905), Paul Reed, Rayjon Tucker (Blue Coats)

Assignees: Isaiah Joe (Blue Coats)

Paul Reed scored a game-high 26 points for the Delaware Blue Coats, and had 13 of the team’s 45 fourth quarter points tonight to defeat Raptors 905 127-100 in the G League semi-finals.

Alize Johnson recorded 26 points and 15 rebounds, and Gary Payton II added 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Nik Stauskas and Henry Ellenson contributed 13 points each for the 905 in the team’s largest margin of defeat this season.

Isaiah Joe scored 24 points and 5 rebounds for Delaware, who lost to the 905 in the regular season matchup by 31. Braxton Key added 21 points and 7 rebounds off the bench, going 5 for 6 from the perimeter and contributing 12 points in the fourth. Justin Robinson (18) and Rayjon Tucker (16) also reached double-digit scoring for the Blue Coats.

Despite a lop-sided final score, Raptors 905 came within one possession of mounting a 17-point comeback late in the third quarter.

Delaware opened up the second half with back-to-back baskets by Tucker to give the Blue Coats a 66-49 advantage, and a tough eurostep-and-1 play by Robinson seemed to have completely shifted the momentum towards Delaware early in the quarter.

But consecutive paint shots by Johnson, who scored 13 points in the third quarter, would spark a 12-0 run to cut the lead to single digits. A Matt Morgan 28-foot 3-pointer would bring the 905 within two points with 2:32 left in the quarter.

Raptors 905 headed into the fourth trailing by only five points, but with an off-night from Ellenson, who scored only 13 points tonight going 1 for 10 from the perimeter, the wheels would soon fall off making way for an abysmal 45-23 deficit in the final frame.

Joe’s free throw attempt early in the fourth would grow Delaware’s lead to double-digits once again with a 91-80 advantage. With 6:28 remaining in the game, Braxton Key drilled a 28-foot 3-pointer for his third straight basket, opening up a late game 103-84 lead for Delaware. A one-for-two free throw from Reed with 2 minutes left in the game gave the Blue Coats a 28-point lead, putting the game completely out of reach.

Raptors 905 finish their G League Bubble season with the best record and offence in the league, and a strong effort in their final game falling short of reaching their third championship appearance.

Without a consistent presence from Malachi Flynn and Jalen Harris due to injuries and call-ups, the team saw players such as Henry Ellenson, Alize Johnson, Gary Payton II, Nik Stauskas, and Matt Morgan really step up and mould this fun and competitive 905 team for the past month that fans got to enjoy. It will certainly be exciting to watch these players as they either stay with the Raptors organization or move on in their basketball careers next season.

Delaware Blue Coats will face off against the Lakeland Magic for the championship on Thursday afternoon. This will be Delaware’s first-ever NBA G League Finals appearance.
