For all the “We the North” era, Toronto really was in the midst of the Kyle Lowry era. For a long time, he was one of the best players in the NBA, and that he went underrecognized and undervalued for his inventive contributions made him all the more Toronto. Every stop he made at the rim, whether by verticality or charge, every pull-up three he hit in transition, and every lob pass he made to a bevy of lucky centers all paved the road that led to the championship.
There will be more words coming in the next few days. But for now Lowry meant everything to Toronto, which means he meant and means everything to me as a fan and now a writer. It’s a rare franchise player that leaves on the best term with his franchise, but Lowry, as he did in every other area, achieved the impossible.
For now, it looks like a sign and trade, which means Toronto will receive some assets in return. At the moment, that doesn’t matter so much. Best of luck to KLOE, Raptor forever.
