Ochai Agbaji – 17 MIN, 2 PTS, 2 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 0 BLK, 0 TO 1-4 FG, 0-3 3PT, 0-0 FT
Agbaji could not capitalize on his catch and shoot looks tonight, which is the bulk of his offense. He is usually more reliable from outside but tonight was just not his night.
Grade: C
Jakob Poeltl – 24 MIN, 10 PTS, 10 REB, 1 AST, 2 STL, 2 BLK, 1 TO 5-15 FG, 0-0 3PT 0-0 FT
Poeltl’s night ended early due to injury, but while he was out there it was clear how much of an impact he had on the defensive end and the glass as well. His rim protection was stout tonight and it was those stops and subsequent rebounds that kickstarted plenty of Toronto’s fast breaks. His push shot was not falling as it usually does tonight, but he showed great synergy with Quickley in screening actions.
Grade: B+
Brandon Ingram – 34 MIN, 13 PTS, 4 REB, 6 AST, 3 STL, 1 BLK, 2 TO 5-9 FG, 1-2 3PT, 2-2 FT
Ingram was not as aggressive tonight as we’ve seen him be throughout the preseason, but he also wasn’t passive either. He simply took the opportunities that were present for him, and he flowed beautifully into some pull-up mid-range looks. His defense was his largest contribution tonight, he was great in help, swiping in the gap at the right time, and he was pretty good at pressing as well.
Grade: A
Sandro Mamukelashvili – 18 MIN, 10 PTS, 5 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 1 BLK, 2 TO 5-6 FG, 0-1 3PT, 0-0 FT
Mamu’s lateral movement really popped tonight as he was walling off drive after drive. He seemed extremely attentive to this tonight. Offensively, he was great at attacking closeouts and his finishing was as smooth as could be. Multiple finger rolls that simply glided off his hand and into the basket, just a beautiful finishing package.
Grade: A
Immanuel Quickley – 34 MIN, 18 PTS, 3 REB, 10 AST, 1 STL, 0 BLK, 0 TO 6-16 FG, 5-9 3PT, 1-2 FT
Quickley pushed the pace very well tonight. He was often leading the fast breaks, blazing his way up the floor and finding teammates in transition. Knocked down his open triples tonight and was always in the right spot for his teammates to swing it to him. Felt that he left some meat on the bone as a driver, and in the mid-range.
Grade: A
RJ Barrett – 33 MIN, 25 PTS, 4 REB, 4 AST, 1 STL, 1 BLK, 1 TO 9-17 FG, 3-7 3PT, 4-7 FT
Wonderful off-ball play from Barrett tonight. His cutting was well-timed, he was always filling the lane in transition and ready to receive an outlet pass, and his finishing was strong as well. Spot-up shooting was very reliable tonight also, just an ideal tertiary game from Barrett.
Grade: A
Scottie Barnes – 35 MIN, 31 PTS, 6 REB, 4 AST, 3 STL, 1 BLK, 3 TO 10-15 FG, 0-2 3PT, 11-12 FT
Without a doubt Barnes’ best game of the preseason. From buzzer to buzzer he was aggressive, imposing his will on defenders en route to the rim. He wasn’t relying on his mid-range tonight he was getting two feet in the paint consistently all game. Down the stretch he was finding his way to the line as well and finishing through contact. His defense was also physical and he protected the rim well.
Grade: A+
Jamal Shead – 9 MIN, 0 PTS, 2 REB, 4 AST, 0 STL, 1 BLK, 1 TO, 0-0 FG, 0-0 3PT, 0-0 FT
Shead did not put up a shot tonight, but his defense at times was strong. This aggressive ball pressure scheme seems to be in line with his style of defense and tonight it worked to his benefit somewhat tonight, and he had a great block on a three-point attempt. For Shead to improve though it definitely has to come on the offensive end, so nights with no shot attempts isn’t a good look.
Grade: C-
Ja’Kobe Walter – 21 MIN, 3 PTS, 2 REB, 4 AST, 0 STL, 1 BLK, 1 TO, 1-2FG, 1-1 3PT, 0-0 FT
Ja’Kobe’s only make on the night was a corner triple assisted by Quickley in transition, other than that he could not find himself open. As a defender he was solid, and he had some pretty strong rotations tonight.
Grade: C+
Coach Darko Rajaković
With this being the final dress rehearsal before the real thing, Darko decided to roll with his rotation players for the entire game, and allowed us one final look at this team before the games start. The sets he called tonight were good, he got Quickley a few open looks, and he setup Barnes to succeed by getting him closer to the basket instead of initiating from the top.
