Luis Scola, PF 23 MIN | 2-9 FG | 1-5 3FG | 3-4 FT | 8 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | -5 +/-
He worked hard, but I really wasn’t a fan of his game tonight. Early on, his shot selection was just bad – taking contested shots early in the clock. Defensively, he struggled when the ball was on the perimeter, as he usually does in that situation.

James Johnson, PF 15 MIN | 1-4 FG | 0-2 3FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 2 PTS | +3 +/-
I can’t remember the last time he had such a quiet game. He’s actually the one player on the team tonight I don’t have notes on, and I’m not exactly sure what that means. Probably that he wasn’t terrible? Not much usage tonight, and his three-point bomb didn’t pop its head.

Jonas Valanciunas, C 26 MIN | 5-9 FG | 0-0 3FG | 3-4 FT | 12 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 4 TO | 13 PTS | -2 +/-
It’s really a shame that he got into foul trouble as he got the better of Marcin Gortat – someone he’s struggled against in recent history. Just over five minutes into the game, Valanciunas had six rebounds. He soon picked up his second foul and had to be subbed out. The second half had barely begun and he already had a double-double, but again, he picked up another foul quickly and hit the bench.

I like his decisiveness – it’s ameliorated.

Kyle Lowry, PG 36 MIN | 8-14 FG | 5-9 3FG | 8-8 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 29 PTS | +12 +/-
So timely – everything he does. From hitting big shots in the clutch, to showing patience in keeping his dribble alive and throwing gorgeous lobs to Biyombo – great performance all-around and hot shooting from everywhere on the floor.

Also had a nice defensive game.

Hoping that his injury isn’t serious.

DeMar DeRozan, SG 34 MIN | 5-13 FG | 1-3 3FG | 6-8 FT | 4 REB | 4 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 4 TO | 17 PTS | +5 +/-
Washington did a really nice job defensively on DeMar – not allowing him to penetrate early on and closing down channels to the rim. The Wizards’ defensive scheme forced DeMar to take tough shots and commit a couple bad turnovers trying to pass the ball out on the perimeter which led to some transition points for the Wiz.

The good: hit a couple timely shots, and, I fully expect him to knock down every open three he has these days.

Patrick Patterson, PF 24 MIN | 1-6 FG | 0-1 3FG | 0-0 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 2 PTS | +22 +/-
His scoring output was not huge by any means, but his activity on defense and on the boards was really great. Solid output from PatMan tonight – bringing the hustle.

Terrence Ross, SF 31 MIN | 6-12 FG | 3-8 3FG | 0-1 FT | 2 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 15 PTS | +14 +/-
His hot shooting in January continues. He just looks really confident, and that basically makes all the difference in his game, and in turn, hugely effects the outcome of the Raptors’ success on the court. He worked hard to stay in front of his man and he’s become legitimately reliable as an offensive weapon.

Lucas Nogueira, C 2 MIN | 1-1 FG | 1-1 3FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 3 PTS | 0 +/-
That three was epic.

Bismack Biyombo, C 19 MIN | 1-2 FG | 0-0 3FG | 3-4 FT | 6 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 5 PTS | +19 +/-Not as huge as he normally is on the boards but he worked tremendously hard and provided solid minutes in lieu of Jonas’ foul trouble. Also of note: He had an emphatic block in the 1st half.

Cory Joseph, PG 25 MIN | 5-7 FG | 0-0 3FG | 0-1 FT | 2 REB | 6 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 10 PTS | +15 +/-Pretty tremendous in the back-court. Sound defensive game, and he was quite dissective getting to the rim.

Norman Powell, SG 2 MIN | 0-1 FG | 0-0 3FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | +2 +/-Did not play a significant amount of minutes, but he did have a nice dribble-penetration where he missed the layup. One assist to his 905 counterpart Bebe.

Dwane CaseyThe Raptors played a really disciplined game tonight and I thought Casey was a big part of that. There was a point in the second quarter where the game blew wide-open and became a transitional back-and-forth nightmare with John Wall leading the breaks. Washington went on a 7-0 run during that stretch and Casey immediately called a timeout and got the Raptors back to play patient half-court basketball.

Three Things We Saw

  1. John Wall is a monster in transition, and even in half-court sets, he blew by pretty well every Raptor player. Off the top of my head: Lowry, DeRozan, Scola, CoJo – all were victims at least once. However, the Raptors’ help D was pretty impressive tonight which stopped any bleeding from Wall penetrations.
  2. A Wizards clean-sweep. Yeah yeah, it only counts during the playoffs – right? Still, it really feels good seeing the Raptors dismantle Washington and putting some nails in their playoff chase. Nine wins in a row means a win over the Knicks on Thursday gives the Raptors a franchise record of ten consecutive victories
  3. Happy Birthday Vince Carter
