The Toronto Raptors have recalled Bruno Caboclo from Raptors 905 of the D-League, the team announced.
I would bet these two roll up the rim tabs I have that Caboclo will be re-assigned Sunday night or Monday morning. The 905 are taking Sunday off as their lone respite in a three-games-in-four-days stretch, while the Raptors are practicing, so Caboclo gets the call up to get some work in. No days off for Brazilian, well, Brazilian me, in that regard.
With the 905 tipping off at noon at the Air Canada Centre on Monday, expect Caboclo to be sent down to serve on the marquee for that game. With DeMarre Carroll still out and the Raptors playing at 7:30 later that night, I’m skeptical anyone else gets sent down with him, though it’s certainly possible.
Caboclo’s coming off of a decent all-around showing in a Friday-Saturday back-to-back, moving his season averages to 14.1 points, six rebounds, 1.7 assists, one steal, and 1.6 blocks in 32 games. He’s shooting 39.2 percent overall and 34.1 percent on threes, the latter being a pretty encouraging mark after a very cold start to the season from long-range. He’s still totaled just 27 minutes of NBA action and doesn’t seem likely to get much run in down the stretch, at least not until after the 905 season wraps on April 1.
And OK, look: I’d have stopped writing these posts a while back if we weren’t less than three weeks out from the end of the D-League season. I get that at this point, they’re probably repetitive and nobody really cares and everybody understands the strategy by now, but we’ve come this far…I’m not stopping at the finish line.
