Ibaka had a nice night on the surface. He was one of the only Raptors able to hit a couple 3-point attempts. He continuously got outhustled by Paul Millsap though, and 3 rebounds in 30 minutes just isn’t enough on a night like this. He took his 5th foul late on an awful call on what should’ve been a clean block, then picked up his 6th moments later on a weak(but valid) offensive foul on Ersan Ilyasova. Missed the closing stretch of the game.

DeMarre rebounded well, and hit his free throws, but he was lead-footed on defense and couldn’t hit his open shots. Did manage to come up with 4 steals and 2 blocks, but the team needs him to hit some three-pointers with Lowry out to space the floor.

Jonas had a solid outing. Showed some nice rim protection with a couple nice blocks, and was solid on the boards while not shooting too poorly. Felt like the team could’ve used him in the fourth quarter, but not having him in there also kept Howard on the bench, so maybe there was some logic in that.

What a weird game from DeMar. Came out distributing, and had some nice early assists(and definitely would’ve had more if some guys had hit their open shots). He didn’t seem aggressive in the first quarter before taking over in the second and third with some brilliant offense. On the other hand, he struggled late, going 2-10 down the closing stretch of the game, and he probably shouldn’t be attempting 8 three-pointers in a game.

This was a pretty good game from Cory. Gave the team 15 points on efficient shooting, to go with nice assist and steal numbers while keeping his turnovers down. This game really isn’t on him, even though he didn’t really slow Schroder down on the other end, either.

P. Tucker25 MIN, 1 PTS, 5 REB, 0 AST, 2 STL, 0-3 FG, 0-2 3FG, 1-2 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 5 +/-

PJ worked hard tonight, but didn’t bring any offense on a night when the team desperately needed to find some shooting. Still, the only player on the team with a positive plus-minus at the end of the game, and can’t really be faulted too much for struggling to guard Paul Millsap.

D
P. Patterson19 MIN, 2 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 1-3 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -4 +/-

Patterson hasn’t been good lately, and needs to find his role again as the energy guy off the bench. He didn’t bring that(or much else) tonight, and just wasn’t a factor in any positive way for the Raptors here.

N. Powell18 MIN, 12 PTS, 4 REB, 0 AST, 3 STL, 4-10 FG, 0-3 3FG, 4-5 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -5 +/-

Powell scored 9 of his 12 tonight during the opening 5 minutes of the second quarter, during which he showed some brilliant athleticism and managed to get to the line for more points. However, as with many other guys, he didn’t provide the shooting and space the team needed down the stretch.

D. Wright13 MIN, 1 PTS, 2 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 0-2 FG, 0-0 3FG, 1-2 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -5 +/-

Wasn’t a great night for Delon, who didn’t get many minutes, but wasn’t effective when he was out there either. Looked the part of the inexperienced player he is tonight.

C
Dwane Casey

Some definite rotation questions tonight, with PJ Tucker going a stretch guarding Paul Millsap during which the team struggled, and it seemed like Casey didn’t have many answers on either end of the floor, and defaulted to the isolation offense late, including after time-out plays. Needed to find a better way to generate some offense from his team, especially in that fourth quarter.

Things We Saw

  1. This wasn’t a pretty game. As badly as the Raptors played tonight, the Hawks were nearly as bad. Both teams left plenty of points on the floor, and if this is a first round matchup in the playoffs, let’s hope the execution can step up a notch.
  2. Jose Calderon gave the Hawks some really nice minutes, which was good to see as someone who appreciated what he gave the Raptors for years. Good to see him finding a home again.
  3. The Hawks now own the tiebreaker over Toronto and are just two games back in the standings. This game could really matter down the stretch of the season, as it might determine home-court advantage in the first round.
  4. The Raptors really have to either cut down on the long-range attempts, or find a way to generate some shots they can hit from there. Really, really ugly three-point shooting tonight.
