Quick Reaction: Raptors 131, Magic 112

Terry got buckets, but Serge got the revenge win.

Comment away.

Was his usual defensive stalwart self and broke up numerous Orlando sets. A high-scoring contest probably isn’t to his advantage, but he still found a way to fit in with a finesse layup in the second quarter.

S. Ibaka32 MIN, 16 PTS, 7 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 5-10 FG, 2-2 3FG, 4-5 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 18 +/-

Was a little lackluster on defence early but really settled into a groove as the game went on. Has now made eight of his last 10 three-point attempts.

J. Valanciunas27 MIN, 17 PTS, 9 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 7-9 FG, 0-0 3FG, 3-4 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, 21 +/-

+21 in 27 minutes. Highly efficient on offence, and handled the glass well despite Vucevic’s best efforts to disrupt him. Looked like he might sit the fourth quarter, again, but came in with five minutes remaining.

First double-double of his career! Had nine assists by halftime and took over the reigns when he needed to. Love his assertiveness now when he receives the ball after the Raptors initial set is nullified. Five turnovers and a good night for Elfrid Payton holds him back from the A+.

D. DeRozan36 MIN, 36 PTS, 2 REB, 3 AST, 0 STL, 13-21 FG, 1-1 3FG, 9-14 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, 9 +/-

36 points on 21 shots in 36 minutes is as good as it gets offensively. Struggled getting through screens to stick with Ross early but easily won the overall individual matchup. Oddly, missed five of his 14 free-throw attempts.

N. Powell24 MIN, 16 PTS, 1 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 6-11 FG, 4-6 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 2 TO, 16 +/-

Was great on offence, but wasn’t as effective on the other end. Lost his man on cuts a few times. Was good to see him hit his 3-point looks.

P. Patterson21 MIN, 4 PTS, 4 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 1-3 FG, 0-1 3FG, 2-2 FT, 1 BLK, 1 TO, 3 +/-

The rim protection of late is a pleasant surprise and hopefully it’s something he can keep up. Offence wasn’t really there tonight but wasn’t required on a night when the Raptors dropped 131.

D. Wright18 MIN, 7 PTS, 1 REB, 3 AST, 3 STL, 3-6 FG, 1-2 3FG, 0-0 FT, 2 BLK, 1 TO, 8 +/-

Other than a down stretch in the third quarter when Orlando made their run, was terrific. Created open opportunities and used his length effectively on defence. Had the huge steal and 3-pointer to beat the third-quarter buzzer that broke some of the Magic’s momentum.

C+
J. Poeltl13 MIN, 12 PTS, 4 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 5-6 FG, 0-0 3FG, 2-4 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -7 +/-

Very good first quarter was negated by a poor third quarter that left Dwane Casey so displeased he turned to Nogueira.

Came in for a minute. Set a screen to create a wide-open three for Norm (missed), grabbed a board, then committed an offensive foul when setting a screen for Wright. Questionable goal-tend call after.

P. Siakam2 MIN, 0 PTS, 2 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 0-2 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, 1 +/-

Had a nasty block late, and was his usual energetic self in the final two minutes of garbage time.

F. VanVleet2 MIN, 1 PTS, 1 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 0-0 FG, 0-0 3FG, 1-2 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 1 +/-

Played out the final two minutes of garbage time so not much to say.

B+
Dwane Casey

Managed the rotations well and found the right answers to withstand Orlando’s run. Put Tucker on Ross for a bit in the second half and was quick to show his displeasure with poor minutes from Poeltl in the third quarter.
