I know he’s just back from injury, but, this wasn’t good. Didn’t bring much to the table on either end of the floor, and we saw more of him than we needed to given what he had tonight.

C
S. Ibaka28 MIN, 15 PTS, 2 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 4-12 FG, 4-9 3FG, 3-4 FT, 1 BLK, 3 TO, 1 +/-

Serge came out cold, managed to find his shot more as the game went on. The real problem for him was he ran into foul trouble and had to sit out a long stretch during the fourth quarter when the Hornets went on their run to get back into the game. Between that and the low rebounds, hard not to want more from him.

J. Valanciunas29 MIN, 14 PTS, 15 REB, 0 AST, 1 STL, 5-6 FG, 0-0 3FG, 4-4 FT, 3 BLK, 0 TO, 10 +/-

JV had one of his best all-around games of the season. Very impressive on the defensive end, especially during the third quarter, and he looked to be back in the form he was in during last year’s playoffs. Saw a little fourth quarter time tonight, too, but that was probably his weakest stretch of the game.

D. DeRozan39 MIN, 28 PTS, 6 REB, 8 AST, 0 STL, 11-24 FG, 0-2 3FG, 6-7 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, 8 +/-

Another great scoring night from DeMar, and his passing was probably better than the 8 assists he had. Felt like he needed to be more selfish both early and late though, as he was passive in the first quarter when Charlotte lead, as well as late in the game when the Raptors couldn’t find their own buckets.

This was almost an A, and maybe an A+ through 3 quarters. He was everywhere impacting the game, scoring efficiently, distributing, and playing strong defense. But the fourth quarter happened, and he fell apart defensively, allowing Kemba Walker to get where he wanted both scoring and distributing. Cory bares a lot of responsibility for that big Hornets fourth quarter.

B+
P. Tucker23 MIN, 6 PTS, 3 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 2-4 FG, 2-3 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -13 +/-

I feel like PJ’s line doesn’t do him justice. He’s a force of personality, and that came through again for stretches tonight. Hit his shots, and played the defense we’ve come to expect.

B
P. Patterson22 MIN, 10 PTS, 1 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 4-8 FG, 1-4 3FG, 1-1 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -8 +/-

I felt like Patterson was good tonight, for the most part. Had a good drive, wasn’t bad shooting. It’d be nice to get more rebounding from him, and the defense wasn’t up to his standards, but otherwise this was a good game for him, and maybe he should’ve seen some late minutes.

C
N. Powell19 MIN, 10 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 1 STL, 2-6 FG, 1-5 3FG, 5-8 FT, 0 BLK, 3 TO, -16 +/-

It’d be nice to know we were getting good Norm every night, but lately he’s been very hit or miss. Was a rough defensive game from him tonight, and he struggled from the field as well. Got enough done at the free throw line to make the scoring look decent, but he needs to hit those threes, too.

D
D. Wright14 MIN, 2 PTS, 0 REB, 4 AST, 0 STL, 1-3 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -14 +/-

Not great from Delon tonight. Had some critical fourth quarter mistakes that really cost the Raptors defensively, and wasn’t the composed player we know he can be.

B
J. Poeltl6 MIN, 0 PTS, 4 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 0-1 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -9 +/-

Jak had an impact on the boards when he was out there, but the minutes were too limited for him to make any more of an impact.

C
Dwane Casey

Wasn’t a fan of the rotations late, felt like Ibaka’s foul trouble threw the plan out the window and Casey struggled to adjust. He needs to be better prepared for those situations, and have a functional backup plan. Couldn’t find any answers in the fourth quarter for the Hornets onslaught.

Things We Saw

  1. Marco Belinelli and Frank Kaminsky went off for Charlotte. Feels like every night it’s someone for the other team, and tonight it was these guys who just couldn’t seem to miss.
  2. Kyle Lowry is shooting with his right hand again, and hopefully this bodes well for him being back before the playoffs. The team could really use him to smooth some of the rough stretches that happen.
  3. Kemba Walker had a rough night, but just took over late. Hit some huge shots, made passes to get guys open for more big shots. Was his game, and the Raptors didn’t have an answer.
